Michael Hotton Recently moving from New York, it took me 5 haircuts to find my spot. Anna is incredibly detail-oriented and efficient, which made my visit a breeze. Unlike other salons that typically take an hour for a less-quality cut, Anna had me in and out of the salon in just 25 minutes. During one of my visits, Anna was out of town, and her so, Eric, was the only stylist available. It was clear that hair styling runs in the family, as Eric delivered an equally impressive haircut and experience. Highly recommended - the attention to detail, efficiency, and the conversations make for a better cut and overall experience!

Raja Rajcic The best Mens haircut in SF with very skilled and friendly staff! Before I found Geary Salon I tried multiple barbershops around SF and none compare. From the first time you come in you are treated like family, and the quality of the cut is unmatched. That is why for the past 3 years I have traveled across the city just for this haircut (shout out to Eric) and would recommend anyone to do the same.

Mike Hogan I have been going here for a couple of years and definitely my favorite. I can even afford to get my haircut twice a month which at normal salons isn’t doable. They are very friendly and accommodating. There’s always a slot open and booking is easy online. Shout out to Anthony & Anna but everyone in there is very friendly and always very busy so I know they are kicking out tight haircuts too.

Tenzin Chomphel This is the spot I would define as the highest quality local family-owned SF barbershop. I always go with Eric or Anthony and both give me a quality cut every time. Ive struggled with barbers in the past not understanding my hair, but (especially if youre an asian guy like me) they listen and know how to work with your needs. But honestly my favorite part is every time you walk in the atmosphere is very welcoming whether its your first time or youve been coming for years. Conversations are great, prices are competitive, would recommend to anyone.

Tammy Herndon Head & Soul is a gem! So happy I finally made it over to this awesome salon to get my hair did!! Seana is the bomb! She’s an expert at color. I have the color I’ve been wanting for so long now. Walked out of there feeling like a new person. I live in Marin and it’s more than worthwhile to go to the city to get my hair done at Head & Soul! I also get my eyelash extensions with Adela at H&S! Love this place ❤️

Darkwing Duck 1st day in town, googled for a hairdresser and found Head&Soul Salon. Walked in and got a super friendly welcome. They organised a schedule just in time and I got a ‚what-I-wanted‘ haircut from Lynn. Very cool place. Highly recommendable, fair price.

Yes it’s not a fancy salon or barber shop but gets the job done right in the neighborhood and not a chain store.

J S Always a fantastic cut from Win and very affordable. I think she should charge more than she does, tip generously if you’re happy with your cut. Very personable, great sense of humor and loves to share her favorite foods and recipes. I have never been disappointed with my visit or haircut when i come to see Win. I would recommend her to anyone. She has many years of experience with hair and it shows. Very skilled with the scissors and clippers! I drive from the Outer Sunset for haircuts.

Dragon Games Very well priced and very kind woman!! She gave me exactly what I wanted and did a fabulous job! I have very thick straight hair and I love the style and my partner has very curly hair and she handled both types very well!

SA 1905 This will be my go-to place for a hair cut. Normal cut for females $23, with layers $28. No appointments and cash only. I recently moved and have been on the lookout for an affordably priced haircut. I spoke to Carmen in Chinese but she understands English just fine. I told her I wanted to trim off my split ends, maintain the layers and have a u-shape. She delivered.

Stephen Grenholm Toms Beautiful Hair is wonderful; Ive been going for years and am always happy (and impressed.) There is such attention to detail, in ambiance and decor as well as, of course, the hair styling which is always great. My last (overdue) trip was especially welcome, and I am still happy. My wifes experiences have also been great, with the best results Ive seen. And I should add that while I have had the fortune to have Tom do my hair often, Wane (who also did my wifes hair) did a great job with me last visit.

Steph I’ve now have had my hair highlighted once and cut twice by Tom, and I’m a very happy client! The cuts he give me last a long time and suite my hair and face very well. I am also very happy with my highlights. Tom really is a master stylist in my experience. Additionally, his assistant Daniel is lovely and gives great hair washing service. This photo isn’t from the salon, but a week after a cut and 3 months after my highlighting appointment. I chose it to show how good my hair is simply blow dried by unprofessional me.

Sandra Eaton I have been a loyal client to Salon Nine, (and before that Gina Khan Salon), for many years. You would be hard-pressed to find a better salon. I’ve tried others, but no one does better than this salon. The team was trained by Gina Khan herself who travels worldwide and trains in Paris and Tokyo her color technique. The salon continues to train in house to ensure their signature quality is sustained. The hairstylists are also, in my opinion, second to none. You couldn’t find a bad one in the group, but mine is Sandy. They are all terrifically skilled technicians who are meticulous. My hair is “okay” quality, but they make it so great that I regularly get stopped and asked where I get my hair colored and cut. I’ve have people stop and ask me for a picture of my hair. I kid you not.

Anna Mathai Cat is a great hair stylist- I have multiple friends and now a sister flying cross country who see her. With thick hair, shaping and layering is everything, and Cat is a pro. My hair always looks beautiful when I leave. She listens to what you want, advises, delivers. I also appreciate her knowledge of curly hair- she was able to style a cut for me that would work both with my natural curl pattern and blowout style.

Sona Samonpal I had a wonderful experience with Li, the owner of the salon. My hair was extremely long, uneven, damaged, and full of split ends, and I wanted a healthier look with more volume since it was very flat. Before starting, I asked Li if the style that I want would suit me, and she took the time to explain what she could do to achieve the look I wanted. She made sure we were on the same page before beginning the trim, which I really appreciated. The end result was exactly what I hoped for. My hair looks so much healthier and has great volume now! The price is also very reasonable. As a college student, finding an affordable hair salon in SF without breaking the bank can be tough, but this place offers great quality at a budget-friendly price. I highly recommend Li for her skill, attention to detail, and fair pricing!

Vy Nguyen Had a great experience with Rosa! I asked for face framing layers front to the back. Really loved how precise she was and she really took the time to make sure all my layers were even. My hair was so shiny and soft after, 10/10 experience, I will be back. $80 for a cut and style is amazing for SF!

Kiki Called to schedule an appointment for a very simple root touch up service. To note I’m a new customer and never been here before. Front office staff were incredibly rude and passive aggressive. When I told them I was looking for a same day appointment she said that was unlikely and took my information to verify. However, their website appears to have a hairdresser with availability and several slots open for booking. When I told them that the website said otherwise, they were super passive aggressive towards me saying “ she doesn’t take same day appointments, I don’t know what else to tell you, if you want you can book else were”. When I had no idea that was the case for their contracted hair dressers. It would be helpful if the website was updated so as to not mislead their new customers.

Rima B. Bianca is one of the most talented and exceptional stylists I have ever been to! I recently went to her for a bayalage treatment. She is artistic, professional, kind, careful, and incredibly detailed! She takes her work seriously, takes the time to understand her clients needs, and is committed delivering outstanding results. The venue was beautiful and staff were welcoming and kind. And her service and talent is next level. If you are looking for an exceptional experience, I would highly recommend her. Melissa Santos Ive had my hair cut twice now at Kosa and couldnt be happier. I LOVE a good shampoo and they do not disappoint—its a gorgeous mini massage with the products giving spa vibes. For this cut, I went with my usual lob but wanted to mix things up. B suggested trying on curtain bangs and styling it more casual wavy. What a transformative suggestion. I walked out of there feeling relaxed and fly as hell.

M W Jackie is an amazing hair stylist and goes above and beyond for her clients. She’s been cutting my hair for over 5 years and there is no one else I trust to cut my luscious locks. Her price point is amazing $25 for a men’s haircut which I’ve been telling her she truly should be charging more $30-35. If you want a great haircut by a kind woman go to Jackie! Make sure you tip!

Aisha Jamila Shah I came here for a simple trim, but felt very uncomfortable when she kept asking exactly how much in inches to take off. I said I wasnt sure exactly, but I wanted to keep the length and only wanted a touch-up to highlight my layers. She seemed confused and said a trim was the same as a haircut. I dont think she knew what she was doing, and the men waiting for a simple buzz cut didnt make me feel more encouraged to stay.

Erik Cheng Wilson did a great job with my hair (in my opinion)! I hadnt gotten a haircut in a year and also really dont take good care of it, so it was a total frizzy mess when I went in. I also didnt really know how to specify what I wanted for my haircut, since Ive never had hair this long or this curly/wavy before. He was able to take my relatively vague input on what I was looking for and did a great job producing a cut I was very pleased with. Well worth the price for his skill and also the included hair washing.

Dailu Chen Wilson is by far the best hairstylist Ive had. He was incredibly flexible and dedicated an entire day to perfecting my balayage with exceptional attention to detail. Ive been getting my haircuts exclusively with him for almost two years now, and he never fails to deliver exceptional results. Xinlan Wen I had an amazing experience at this hair salon! The stylist was incredibly professional and attentive. I did balayage one year ago and had patchy hair color now. They carefully assessed the base color of my hair and decided to apply the color in three stages to get the perfect shade. The final color turned out exactly how I wanted, and I absolutely love it! The haircut was also done with great precision, and the stylist continuously checked in with me to make sure I was happy with the progress. The pricing was very reasonable for the quality of service provided. I highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for a skilled and thoughtful stylist!

They were able to schedule me the day after I called. From what I saw of the other clientele, this also seems to be a go-to salon for guys/gals with curly hair. Ill be back in a couple of weeks to get some color!

Gina Luciano My first experience at Damia was a consultation with Courtney a week ago. I explained that I hated my hair color which had a light brown base with blonde highlights which had turned an unflattering yellow. Moreover, I was thinking about transitioning to gray hair—more in step with my age. Courtney made some suggestions and recommendations but unfortunately she was booked for the next month. After I explained that I couldn’t wait a month, she suggested that I make an appointment for a week thence with Rajah, “who is very good”, she said. Today was my big day and with some trepidation, after 12 years with the same hairdresser who had lately decided to do as he pleased regardless of my concerns, I went to see Rajah. While he had been briefed by Courtney, Rajah performed a miracle pulling out my grey into silver with a complimentary darker base on my neck. My hair is beautiful. He trimmed the back of it without cutting too much of my hair which is a much more flattering style. Thank you, Rajah. And thank you Courtney for referring me to him.

Kathryn Downie I am one of those people that has a hard time getting their hair cut. I often feel unheard by my stylist when I try someone new. Chri was so patient and kind with me. She made me feel completely at ease. I tend to like a classic cut. She gave me exactly what I wanted and made recommendations for things I’d like to try with her in the future. My hair is the type that shows where it’s cut and she knew exactly how to blend her work. The salon itself is light and airy, a truly relaxing environment. The staff was lovely. It’s the best feeling to love your hair after a visit to the stylist and I love my hair.

I opted for the "transformation cut" and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Lauren Tanny Edith did a wonderful job on my straight, thin, fine hair! The color and highlights look great and added lots of body. Her hair cutting is excellent. It is a good, honest, clean salon run by a very nice couple. She was very clear about disclosing pricing after we decided what to do, which I really appreciated.

Jxx X I walked in needing a haircut & beard trim before taking a company picture. Edith squeezed me in before her first appointment of the morning. She was kind, funny, and took her time. The result looked great. The price is reasonable for the city, and given their great attitude and kind demeanor, it’s more than worth it. Also, their shop dog Runa is incredibly sweet, and between her naps will stop by the chair to be pet. The shop is very clean as well. I highly recommend going here if you want a good cut with friendly service.

Kristen Brady Their website quotes men’s and womens haircuts at $70+. I took time off work and arrived at the appointment to be told my haircut would be $130 for a normal womans haircut. I understand it being a little more but almost double the online price is manipulative. Since I had to take time off work i tried to see if she didnt blow dry it or didnt wash it if i could get a lower price, but the owner was firm and wouldnt work with me. Huge waste of time and deeply sad i took time off work. Terrible misrepresentation of their prices and bad customer service.

Michelle Tam Edith helped me prep and cut 14 inches of my hair for donation. She did a great job evening my hair out after such a dramatic cut and was so sweet and kind the entire time. I appreciated that Edith was upfront about the cost before starting. The salon is very clean and cozy, and Luna the dog is so cute.

Stephanie I’ve been getting my brows done by Claudia Booker for over 16 years, and she is simply the best. She’s a true expert in her field with an eye for aesthetics that can’t be taught—it’s just something you’re born with. Every time I leave her chair, my brows look perfect, and I always get compliments. They frame my face beautifully and make me look and feel put together. Over the years, I’ve moved around and could never find anyone nearly as skilled, so I eventually stopped getting my brows done altogether—just lightly trimming and tweezing on my own instead. It’s too risky to trust just anyone because when someone messes up your brows, it’s a disaster! Beyond brows, Claudia is my go-to resource for all things skin, beauty, and overall wellness. She knows exactly which products to use and has the best recommendations for facials, lasers, and skincare experts. Blake Justman Nikolai did an amazing job and was a pleasure to talk to. Hes incredibly knowledgeable; Im a curious person and so he explained everything as he went. Hes an artist and Ill 100% be back! Update: I had to get an emergency cut because I had to get pictures taken at work and it was at a regular barber... It, uh... It was bad, and the experience was terrible. I immediately regretted not making the drive to Nikolai and I wont be making that mistake again. Im a frugal person, and I really didnt expect to feel like it was worth it to spend 3-4x what I normally would; but it most definitely is and everyone I leave feeling happy about it. That should tell you how good the styling and experience is.

Colleen Butts This is the most toxic salon I have ever been to in my life, full of drama among the employees and not enjoyable. It has a cold desperate energy, and worst of all Nikolai will completely destroy your hair. When I expected a simple trim from our discussion, Nikolai chopped good length off throughout my hair (up to +6 inches where he deep cut front top part), cut in more layers (after specially saying no layers again and again in every appointment), and deep cut front hair on each side creating an mullet look within my long hair. Not only is the cut horrific but sides arent even and the back sloped, (one side is shorter by other side in a section by at least 3 inches), to top it off he completed shredded my hair with texturizing sheers. I told him from Day 1 do not cut into my hair, do not give me layers, do not give me that chopped look, I want it long. Does he listen No. My hair is now a shredded mullet disaster and I will have to wear it up for the next few months. It will probably take a full year to get back at least where it was. The front layers alone would terrify anyone, it looks like someone took machete through the front of my hair. Any good stylist would know not to use texturizing sheers on my hair.I love my hair now cant bear to look at it. Nikolai specializes in mens basic cuts and the entire salon is trying to sell him as womans stylist however he has no idea what he is doing. This is basically a fraud scheme and you are being used as his guinea pig for him to learn as he doesnt know womens hair. You will be charged the same rate as a Master Stylist at a real salon with real experience. Nikolai recently took his prices up 50% and did the "I m not going to say anything see if they notice", which is gross and unprofessional. Dont ask him to blowout your hair because he wont be able to handle that either, nor does he even have the tools. He cant style hair to save his life, expect it to look worse than when you arrived. I am now living with 1995 Jennifer Aniston chopped layered disaster, every womans worst nightmare after repeatedly telling him I am growing my hair long, dont cut layers or any of that junk into it. I could write a book about this place, there is so much more, but my best advice is to avoid everyone there at all costs, unless you are into charity cases or paying top price to be a hair model for someone to practice on.

Lauren Hutcheon I just moved from North Carolina to the bay area and found Preston Marks Hair through social media. Was super nervous not knowing the area, but Preston did a full color on my blonde hair and left me looking absolutely amazing. Can’t wait to come back! :)

Ini Li I dont usually post reviews but I have to for Mako at Arty Hair! Ive been going to Mako for my regular haircuts for several years now. I never had a regular hair stylist until her. Mako always gives me a consistent hair style for my thick, wavy hair just how I like it. Luckily I was seeing her for a haircut a few weeks before my wedding at City Hall and realized I had no idea of what to do with my hair. I asked Mako if she could style my hair and all I can say is, wow. She came up with a hair style that felt true to me and it stayed in place all day. Shes already a little hard to book (Im a last-minute kind of girl) so writing this review poses the risk that she will be even harder to book but I just had to write this glowing review. Im sure the other stylists at Arty are wonderful too!

Ru7dy I booked an appointment and got canceled last minute by the salon because they want to magically serve another client at the same time. Would not recommend this place to people looking for a simple haircut since they will prioritize other more valuable customers over you.

Kristina Solomita I had been wanting to get bangs but I didn’t know where to look. My friend suggested looking for stylists in the bay, and this was one of the highly recommended ones. I had never gone to a salon like this before and wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was a pleasant surprise for me and my friend nonetheless. The staff was immediately very welcoming and friendly. They sat us down and we came to a quick understanding of what styles we were going for. We got our hair shampooed and heads massaged. During the hair cuts I immediately noticed how dedicated the stylists were at paying attention to every trim, and it looked better each time they did something new. At the end I got my hair styled as shown, and was even given another courtesy massage. Will definitely be looking forward to coming here again for a future perm!

Eliza Wu didnt want to write this because they refunded me but I have to share my experience if it will help others I went for a root touch up (bleach and tone) for a beige blonde look and walked out with bands of black, orange, and yellow. I spent the next day in another salon where they had to bleach my hair again and now half of my hair is gone and tons of it has snapped off. yes Im glad they refunded me but my hair has gone through irreversible damage because of the bad experience at arty.

Yingfei Xie I got a long bob cut from Kyoko and it looked so cute and neat! The price was very reasonable compared to some other salons for a women’s cut and service was both efficient and thorough.

Sioban Dixon Color & Keratin- Emma did an excellent job coloring my roots today and perfectly matched my previous color! Cashmier then gave me a fantastic Keratin Treatment. Both stylists were very warm, polite, and professional. My hair turned out great!

Sa Yg I was in happy tears by the end of my color session here. After a horrible experience at another place left me with a brassy balayage, I came here hoping for a miracle. From the moment I walked in, the staff was warm, welcoming, and so attentive. Patrick took the time to listen to what I wanted, carefully examined the mess I came in with, and walked me through exactly how he was going to fix it. He was patient, professional, and reassured me that was an easy fix. In the end I finally got the balayage of my dreams! This place has earned my loyalty. If you’re looking for incredible service, amazing results, and a team that truly listens, this is the place to go!

Isha U Singh Patrick is truly the best! This salon is a gem, and Patrick’s warm personality makes every visit exceptional. He did my few keratin treatments, and I can confidently say he’s the best in the city for it. Patrick really takes the time to understand what you want and goes above and beyond to make sure you’re happy. He’s genuine, attentive, and has a great team. Katie also did an amazing job with my hair color—I couldn’t be happier! As someone who’s usually very picky, I felt assured I was in the right hands. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for quality and care in SF!
