Lena T Annika is the first person in the states that Ive ever trusted with my natural (3b/c) hair, and the first person anywhere to ever color it, other than myself. And I couldnt be happier with my results! I never write long reviews, but this feels warranted. Backstory: Ive been highlighting my own hair sporadically since 2020. Recently, though, I got a bit too careless with my technique, which resulted in some serious banding and brassiness. Unfortunately, I dont have any "before" pictures because I couldnt bear to look at it, let alone capture it on camera. But to visualize, the banding was so bad that in some parts it almost looked like leopard print. Needless to say, it was absolutely nowhere near the slightly chunky balayage I had in mind. & I knew I needed professional help. Back to the review: Annika was very knowledgable during our consultation, and I felt so safe putting the fate of my hair in her hands. She explained everything we would do with full honesty, telling me what styles would and wouldnt work for my hair. After the actual appointment, I can tell you one thing for certain, she KNOWS what shes doing. My tragic DIY "highlights" are now completely unrecognizable, and I finally feel confident wearing my hair out without needing to style it just to hide the banding. Plus, my hair still feels healthy and strong. Shortly after my appointment, I went out to run errands and ended up garnering compliments on my hair color at almost every place I stopped — which, was a fun bonus to the overall great experience I had that day& also a testament to the quality of Annikas work. I do know that shes incredibly skilled with a variety of hair textures, but I especially want to highlight this for my fellow curly hair folks. If ur looking for a stylist in the Santa Monica/West Los Angeles area who truly understands curly hair (which genuinely feels like finding a needle in a haystack) — congratulations, you’ve just found one in Annika. Debbie C One of my highlights of 2024 was having the pleasure to have been a client at AHHA Hair. I feel so fortunate to have met Annika and her daughter Arianna. They exceeded my expectations in every way. First of all, the hair expertise and experience is obvious. They know what they are doing, and their talent shines through. I would feel comfortable going to them for any hair scenario, i.e., color, cut, detangling, styling, etc. I’m confident that they can handle even the most challenging hair with ease. Simply put, they are pros. But beyond that, they are good people. They are kind, likable, funny and make you feel so comfortable from the moment you sit down in their chair. If I lived closer I would be a weekly client. But since it’s a bit long distance for me, I will look forward to visiting a few times a year for some hair maintenance, a kind smile and a warm hug!

Myra Horwitz Maggie is fabulous! Her color sense really wonderful. I’m a natural red head I have some grey and she ha been able to match my color beautifully. Love coming to her little salon. She is friendly and has a lovely way about her. I highly recommend for color and cuts!

Cheryl Beychok My hair was damaged, falling out, overprocessed. I finally decided organic hair color might be a healthier option. I searched online and found this salon, close to home. My hair, now a year later, is much, much improved and growing in. I’m using organic products, recommended by Maggie, and my strands have really come back to life! Yes, I’m spending more but the results are worth it. The salon is charming and has a relaxing vibe. I’m so glad I found this place.

Samantha Yee I got a haircut here a few months ago. She convinced me to get a heavy metal detox too. The heavy metal detox made my scalp itch like crazy!!! I just got my scalp looked at and it’s totally destroyed… the haircut was so uneven too. I paid over $250 all in all and was there for like 3 hours. She didn’t even cut my hair until the last 15 minutes either and she cut it dry. I ended up getting a haircut 2 weeks later because it was so bad and the cuticles weren’t sealed so my hair was in worse condition… I recommend you stay far away!!!

Jamie Slovon Jordan is fantastic! I came to her after pandemic bleaching my hair- she listened to my vision of what i really wanted with my new blonde head and helped figure out a plan on how to get there. Shes attentive, generous and a pleasure to work with. Major attention to detail too! She will take the time to make sure you leave happy and everything looks and feels great! In all sincerity- you wont regret working with her.

Monique Remick Jordan at Eco Color Lab is an amazing stylist who is easy to talk to and SO amazing at her job. Whether you need a simple haircut, or something new and fun to do to your hair, Jordan is an expert and can be trusted. I havent dyed my hair in years and went to Jordan for some highlights and she did an incredible job!

Shab Bahadori I visited Miakel for a root touch up, and I am very pleased with the results. I got same day appointment. Miakel gave me his expert advise on color option, and my hair looks great. Patty the lady who washes the hair is fantastic also. The best hair wash scalp massage i ever had. I will definitely go back to Miakel Bishay Salon.

Nina Savio Amazing experience - I came in with a vision, using two photos to show Miakel what I wanted, and he gave me exactly what I imagined. Dyed my dark brown hair auburn, and added highlights. So happy with it, I get so many compliments. Couldn’t recommend this salon and Miakel enough!

Lyeda Waseil I had Vilen as my hairdresser! I came in as a walk-in and was ushered in right away. Vilen made sure the water temperature was right and I honestly got the best hair massage as he washed my hair!! I did not want it to stop. I just asked for a wash and blow dry and he did the most fantastic job, my hair swooped exactly how I wanted it and he kept asking if it’s okay along the way so it could be perfect. I appreciated his advice for my deadends too so I would for sure make an appointment for a cut. I highly recommend him!!

Ary A This has taken me a few years to post but I finally have the courage to do so. I had a consultation with Miakel and showed him a reference picture with desired outcome and explained my entire hair history. I expressed to him that I was worried about the integrity of my hair because I have used black box dye for years. He ensured me that my hair would be fine and not to worry. While I was getting my hair processed, Miakel checked the foils and said that my hair was lifting a lot more than he thought it would and that he was confident that I would be leaving the salon with my desired look. While in the chair, Miakel and his assistant processed my hair THREE times. I expressed to his assistant that I was worried that my hair would not be able to handle so many processes but she checked my foils and said that I have nothing to worry about. When I came time to rinse and dry my hair, I could feel my hair falling out. I asked the assistant if it was and she lied and said it wasn’t. I gave Miakel the benefit of the doubt and believed that he knew what he was doing and not to worry. As I was getting my hair blown dried, my hair was breaking off as they brushed through it. I started to cry and tell Miakel that my hair was ruined. He immediately moved me to the back of the salon where he proceeded to tell me that my hair was “not bad”, “I was crying for nothing”, “me crying makes him feel that I’m insulting his work”, and so much more. He was VERY rude, tried to gaslight me, and invalidated my feelings towards this whole ordeal. I was very upset and said that I was not going to pay him. He told me that I NEEDED to pay him for his time, as we were there for about 6ish hours. I felt intimidated and belittled by Miakel, so I felt obligated to pay him. When I asked how he was going to fix my hair, he said I could add extensions but that I would have to pay, which is absolutely absurd. I had a horrible experience with him. I have attached my hair before and after seeing him, as well as the reference photo (it’s not the exact one I showed him but close to it)

jeannie christensen I just moved to SoCal a few weeks ago, and did some homework beforehand to try to get a simple treatment done by a few of the top rated stylists/colorists around West LA - mainly to test chemistry/approach. Miakel Bishay Salon and his crew were on this list. When I went in for basic root touch up though, I realized I could throw away the rest of my hair go-to list. This is the spot for me. Miakel did an amazing job on the root touchup (of course), but then after a quick super effective consult, asked me if I wanted to add more movement, texture and edge to my asymmetrical bob. I was on board b/c I could tell he knew what he was doing, and after he went about carving into super thick hair (without taking out length) I was left with a next level bob with movement and french sexiness. He did this in like 3 minutes too. Speedy Gonzales genius. My hair background goes deep with the best: I was a client of Ward at Bumble, Eva Scrivo and others in NYC, and Ernesto Meneses in SF. Im so glad I found my next hair artist in LA. Highly recommended.

LinhDa T Called first thing on a Saturday and, they were of coursed fully booked for same-day. But they offered to fit me in, at the end of the day (yay!). I walked in and I got placed with the owner Alba. She wasnt too chatty with me, works for me! I enjoyed watching everyone work (cute dog ran around too!), she make sure my hair fell just right! Ive gotten my hair cut at cheap salons and more expensive places but I think Alba is just right for me especially given the quality! Ill definitely return. Glad to find a new hair salon that I can call my own (and theyve apparently been there for 13 years!).

Eric Barenfeld I never ever leave reviews. But this place deserves one. Very clean, friendly, welcoming storefront. Extremely pleasant staff. I am very picky with my hair and received a premium haircut from Dolores. Very efficient and precise… Extremely friendly. Give this place a shot you’ll be happy about it!!

Kelly Geier Wow wow wow! Dolores is such a sweetheart and an even better hair stylist. I got my haircut here 3 weeks ago and it is growing in so wonderfully. You cannot beat their prices either, fantastic experience. I will definitely be coming back and I have already referred any of my friends looking for a great salon that doesnt break the bank.

Jerica Burgette I haven’t gotten a haircut in a while, so I decided to get one while on vacay in LA. Delores is the sweetest woman, and the atmosphere is laidback. I have long but fine/thin hair, and she knew just how much to cut off and layer to make it look healthy and bouncy. She did a good job on framing my face with my bangs, too. Highly recommend, and this place would definitely be my regular go-to, if I lived here!

Jujuba Verde Today I had my hair done for the first time with the hairdresser Kenna, and she is a good listener of the details I requested. As a result, she did an excellent job; she did highlights, root, hair cut, and blow dryer. I chose the first hour of Monday, which I find convenient, instead of Friday, when the salon is full. I will definitely return to keep my hair this way.

victoria dickson Tali . Is . Amazing. I found her when my postpartum hair was less than lovely. Shes done full & partial highlights on my short curly hair and theyve always come out perfect. Any time I want to tweak the highlight amount or color she is right on point (even with my naive explanations of what I want). It also doesnt hurt that she is also fun as hell! Highly recommend.

Alison Stover I got my hair cut here last week by Salomon and my hair looks great! It was my first time here, but I thought I would be in good hands because of all of the good reviews, and I had a great experience! He paid such attention to detail, and I walked out with a wonderful haircut! He’s also so nice and so personable. A really great experience all around!

Ashy B Such a nice experience. They were efficient and very sweet. The bottom floor is like a store but also has comfy seating to wait in while the upper floor is bright and open for when you have your appointment! It wasn’t too loud or noisy and it was aesthetically pleasing! Pricing was decent for a Venice hair salon and everyone was friendly!

Mo Burns $$$$$ Morgan is great. She did wonders fixing my hair after I went too light. The products in their boutique are wonderful on your hair. $$$ but worth every penny.

Kate Mrozowski Salty Mane is definitely one of my happy places. The atmosphere is AMAZING. You can see the beach and the space is designed so well. I feel so comfortable and pampered when I’m there. I’ve been getting my hair cut and colored by Liana for years and she’s the one I trust most in the world with my hair. She’s professional and no b.s. with a great eye and instinct.

Rachel Godfrey Steer clear unless you want to look like a clown! I made an appointment here after seeing an influencer post about it. It became clear they only value their influencer clients as they rescheduled my appointment multiple times (5+) after confirming. I saw Kali who botched my hair so horrifically, the top was streaked with red and brown stripes that ended with a harsh line into a block of pure orange hair. I told her at the salon I was seeing 3+ colors in my hair and she started gaslighting me saying she didn’t see that but we should schedule a revision. They rescheduled my revision 4 times and I told them I didn’t want to see the same girl who destroyed my hair. They had me send them a bunch of photos of my hair and then said it required too much time and effort for them to fix and they wouldn’t have time for me until October, over a month and a half after my original appointment. It’s clear that they reschedule their regular clients to fit in these influencers, and couldn’t care less about their botched work to fix it or give regular clients the time of day. An embarrassment of a salon.

C. Rodríguez Steve is one of the best hair barbers in Santa Monica area. His work exceptionally professional and knows what he is doing. I also take my wife over here highlight she loves his work. Highly recommend this beauty salon in LA.

Blanca Olivarez I got Juan Juan in Beverly and couple other high salons on Beverly. Compared to the other salons he is absolutely one of the best because after doing highlights its dry but not with Steve. He has a method of making it smooth and silky. Wow wow wow. He highly experience stylist in LA. He is the best salon in santa Monica area. I love his energy and great atmosphere. Steve is by far the greatest when it co.es to balayage highlights in santa monica area. Highly recommend him.

Joanne Factor A gem of a find on Whilshire near Berkeley (tons of parking)! I walked in as a starlit, walked out as a Hollywood A-lister...with the best blow-out (and scalp massage), youll find in SoCal. Steve is the kindest and most talented hair stylist with decades of experience. One of the best blow outs you can get! I am officially a regular and look forward to getting my hair cut & colored! Lulu My last visit ended with me crying on the way home. I asked for a light balayage but went home with orange blonde hair???? (as someone with super dark brown hair) My hair was obviously uneven and my hair was fried (even though i specified that my top priority was healthy hair no matter what) I tried calling after to have them fix it and no one answered. I also messaged on instagram and got no response. Highly doubt i’ll come back after that.

amanda irwin I have a TON of hair and have walked into salons that have taken 6 hours to do a full head of high lights, making a terribly daunting task to do my hair. Kendra over at Daidone not only did the best job out of everyone I’ve ever gone too, but also did it in 2 hours. Best work I’ve ever gotten in a very timely manner; you can tell she is beyond experienced. She will be my girl from now on forever!

Annu Madhvani Went to Daidone salon and was not a good experience. I was told $45 on the phone twice . After my blow dry which was done by Sonia, she told me $55. I told her I was told $45. She said my hair took time. It took time because she did not know what she was doing. I had to keep explaining to her. Even then my hair was not what I wanted. My hair looked so frizzy that I could have done a better job my self. I will not be going back.

Maria Erinn is amazing! Highly recommend going to her for the best styling. She’s been my longtime stylist and I’m so excited to be her customer at her own salon. She gets my curly wavy hair and is a coloring savant — she brought me back to my original hair color and my own family couldn’t tell the difference. She’s seen me through long haircuts, shorter bobs and everything in between. Erinn is also the loveliest person to chat with and gets exactly what you mean when all you have is a half baked image in your head. 10/10

Enrique Quintero There are no better options to style your hair in all of Santa Monica. None. Ive tried so many and Bombshell sits comfortably at the pinnacle. The staff at Bombshell make sure to treat you like a freaking celebrity. Its definitely one of those salons where you find your new hair bestie to bond with and they become a part-time therapist like in the movies. The vibe is definitely warm and welcoming, with a touch of luxury that isnt too full of itself. I dont think Ive ever had a single negative experience in this salon. Everyone is so well trained and incredibly detail-oriented. Ill be going back again and again until I die.

YANA REZNIKOVA I am very disappointed with my last visit to the salon. I came to have my hair straightened with a blow dryer, but the result was far from satisfactory. Just an hour after the styling, my hair became very frizzy and wavy, although it was supposed to be straight. Considering that I paid $90 for this service, I expected much better quality. Unfortunately, the style was not what I was promised at all, which is absolutely unacceptable. I am extremely dissatisfied with the outcome and do not recommend this salon.

Lin Dana My daughter came in to get a blue balayage (see photo). James confirmed he could it. The result was some stringy green straw disappointment (see photo). It wasn’t until he was done that he admitted to my daughter (his exact words): “oh this color doesn’t work on Asian hair, I should’ve told your dad I couldn’t do it.” Then proceeds to charge her full price. Total was $425.00. Refused to offer to fix it unless she paid even more money. Fix it? Ha! He just admitted that he doesn’t know how!!! She and her father had been coming here for years. NEVER AGAIN. DO NOT GO HERE. Horrible.

Just_Materials Hey! Recommend: Sarah! Go to her! She does textured curly hair and transforms it into nice styles. I got a blowout, with wash and detangle yesterday. Only took about 2.5 hours. She was very hands on and down to earth.

Rebekah Tweed Fox Ive been seeing Kate for a few years now, and I couldnt be happier with the results. Shes a great listener and always takes the time to understand exactly what I want. I primarily go to her for a cut and gray blending, and shes always thorough and detail-oriented. Shes open to discussing multiple options and care needs. My hair is quite long and fine and there is a deceptive amount of it- she absolutely never rushes through the process and makes sure everything is perfect. This last time, instead of the usual ashy blonde toner, Kate used a smokey indigo, and Ive been getting a lot of compliments--notably-- even strangers at the grocery store or while walking my dog, have stopped me to say how great my hair looks. I literally havent gone outside without someone commenting on it. Its the first time in a while that Ive had such a noticeable change, and I love it. Kate is also very personable--shes easy to talk to, funny, and always professional. If youre looking for a stylist who listens and takes the time to deliver awesome results (especially if youre looking for someone whos absolute pro at color), I definitely recommend her. I also want to note that the front desk employees are also always friendly- both in person and on the phone. To make an appointment, its probably easiest to call, but I think I scheduled my first using their online system. **Note- Apologies to Kate- I didnt style my hair for this photo. It was taken today, inside under florescent lights at work, more two weeks and several washes after my appointment**

Jessica Haslam As a resident physician, I dont have a lot of time to spend on my hair, but for my upcoming wedding, I really had a vision of having a beautiful blonde balayage! I had already recently gone to another hair salon in Brentwood, but they ruined my hair so much that I was embarrassed, and honestly a little bit anxious about What I would look like my most special day... Then one of my co-resident suggested Luxelab, a salon that shes been going to since she went to undergraduate school here and then through medical school and I knew that with my limited free time, I need it to go to a place that I could trust. The first moment that I met Coco, I knew that she would be able to help save my hair! The way that she triaged the damage that my hair was in was so professional, and she did an amazing job giving me the hair that I have always wanted! A whopping 6.5 hours later (with multiple naps from myself and a grueling arm workout by coco!), my hair was saved, and it was beautiful! I might be a doctor in real life, but I have dubbed Coco, my hair doctor!! She sent me home with a prescription for my hair, including these hair products, and has even followed up with me the day prior to my wedding to see how my hair (and I!) were doing The salon itself was also so clean and smelled so good, and all of the staff were so kind! Of note, there is free parking!! I didnt realize that at first, and I had to keep running out to pay for street parking again Coco was so nice and said that she would help me move my car, but I didnt want her to have to worry about it, and that next time I come back, I will make sure to park in the free parking spot in the second floor! Also, the pricing is on par with other hair salons in the area! Its worth every penny!!

Eva Lanstein Sherill, the new manager I guess, is simply horrible, to say the least. Her demeanor and way of communication would be appropriate at Walmart $20 haircut place, not a "lux" salon, where clients anticipate to spend about $1000. Hopefully Orlando will find someone more fit for this place (I WAS client there for years, absolutely not going there anymore)

Captain Soul Been to this salon before multiple times. They always seem busy, which I suppose is a good thing, yet the vibe is still pretty relaxing. I also love the nice, easygoing vibe of this section of Santa Monica. Got a cut from Coco for the first time. I was offered a beverage as per usual before getting started. She did a fantastic job, obviously very knowledgeable and experienced. Shes very good at listening to your needs and concerns and is meticulous with her work.

I had just moved to Santa Monica over a year ago and had been looking for a curly hair specialist for far too long. Thank goodness I found Bree! I have gone to several "curl" stylists in the past but have NEVER had a stylist so passionate about equipping me with the knowledge and skills to understand my own hair. Allure Esthetics Stacy South in suite 2 is the absolute best there is for precision cuts (my hair is curly too and she mastered it) and color!! She matched my color so perfectly and after 2 months if it wasnt for the gray you would never know I color it. She is beyond amazing...cannot recommend her enough.

Judy Clark Darcio in suite 5 is a doll! Hes the only one I will let touch my hair. He cares about giving the best results, and uses the least amount of product for the least amount of damage. Hes been doing mine and my daughters highlights now for two years, and we will wait before going to anyone else. Our hair is never looked so healthy and the color is perfect! So happy I found him! He specializes in extensions. I tried them, but they were a little too much for me. Dont wait to the last minute cuz his calendar is always full.

Initially, everything was fantastic. The studio provided a great space for my work, and the ambiance was truly inspiring. As the COVID situation unfolded, things became more challenging due to constantly changing rules and regulations. However, despite the hurdles, we managed to navigate through the difficulties together, which I appreciated. However, my overall impression of Salon Republic soured significantly when it was time for me to move out. They presented me with a bill exceeding three thousand dollars, an outrageous amount compared to the mere $150 deposit I had initially paid. They claimed that I had caused damage to the studio that I rented, leaving me baffled and frustrated. This serves as a word of caution for anyone considering renting from Salon Republic: be aware that they expect the studio to be returned in the exact condition it was when you first moved in no matter how many years you have been there, meaning no account for wear and tear. Failure to meet their standards could result in substantial charges that you may not have anticipated. In addition, a piece of advice; Im truly grateful for is stopping the automatic weekly rent deduction from my account well before my departure. Had I not done so, Salon Republic could have easily taken the money from my account without my consent. Sharing this review is essential because, in situations like these, its crucial to empower fellow renters with information. While we might not always have advocates in our corner, remember that establishments like Salon Republic have their own support systems. In the end, my time at Salon Republic had its moments, but the post-rental experience left me disappointed and cautious about similar arrangements in the future.

carmen carrasco I went to the salon for a haircut and color with Elizabeth V., who did an amazing job on my hair!! I had some ideas about what I wanted, which she understood perfectly to give me the perfect cut. Elizabeth took her time to color, cut and style my hair, even tried a hydrating treatment on brittle hair, which I appreciated very much; super professional and friendly. The guy at the front desk was super nice too! The salon is beautiful. Thank you for an amazing service and great, knowledgeable staff!!!

With my friend in desperate need of a haircut we decided to pop in to see if they had any availability. Within 30 minutes we were sitting in the chair for a consultation and within 30 more minutes we were on our way out the door! The stylist who took care of us was named Elizabeth and not only did she absolutely slay with my friend’s haircut but she was warm, inviting, and hospitable asking us questions about our life, where we’re from, and the quality of life back home. Her unwavering kindness and attention to detail will definitely have us coming back again should we ever find ourselves in Santa Monica ever again.
