The Best 20 Hair Salons in Palo Alto, Santa Clara (part 2)

Wen Xi Christy is the only person my husband trusts for haircut in the Bay Area. He has been going there for 10+ years and has always been satisfied. Recently I brought my dad to Christy for haircut and the result came out pretty well too! She is friendly, professional and reliable. My dad felt very welcomed and comfortable visiting. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a haircut at a reasonable price.

Jianwei Zheng The staff here were very friendly, and the environment was clean and welcoming. However, the haircut didn’t turn out anything like the picture I showed the stylist. There was no layering—just a blunt shave up the sides. The cut ended up uneven, with the back looking like a dog took a bite out of it, and the front resembling a pastry on my head. For a $43 men’s haircut, I was expecting better, especially given the high rating. I did leave a generous tip, but only because of the gentle service—they washed my hair before and after the cut, which made me feel refreshed. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be returning.

Ankita Pasad Got a haircut from Christy day before yesterday. I shortened quite a bit (about 5 inches) and I am still finding some hair my original length. I already cut hair at two such places to match the new length and just found a third one. I also see that the shortest step on one side is much shorter (half the length) than the shortest step on the other side. Not sure how an experienced hair dresser can make such mistakes. Very disappointing. The place was clean, quiet, and cozy and Christy was also gentle and confirmed multiple times re. the length and style. I was hoping to make this my to-go saloon.

Gatha Sehgal Christy has been my go-to haircut person for the last few years. She is great and always listens to exactly the style you want and also suggests style & products that may be better suited for your hair. I would highly recommend haircut services by her.

Marcela Sierzega I enjoy coming to this nail salon! Amy, who did my dip powder manicure, is very professional and knows what she’s doing. My nails look beautiful. The layer of dip powder is not too thick! Yes!

Rebecca 88 I have tried this place on serveral occasions to have my nails done and it is one of my favorite places to go because they always do a great job on my nails. Ill show them a picture and they make it look like the picture but better. I am very satisfied and will return. I love the hot wax as well the massage. Its a great way to relax after a long day. The only issue is not all the chairs within the facility work/recline the best but other than that its a great place for walk-ins. I would definitely go again. :)

Hi Hello - Used a drill directly on my nails to remove gel because they did not wait long enough for the acetone to soak (even after I said I wanted to use the acetone) - Gel still remains on my nails and there are divots in my nail from the drill - They tried to hide the above by giving me another gel manicure (I wanted regular manicure) - Did not ever stop to ask me what I wanted on my nails, immediately started working. I had to stop them many times - Was talking on the phone the whole time - It was not an enjoyable experience at all. My hands and nails did not feel good. Overall: if you want a cheap manicure, this is a good place. If you want a relaxing and quality manicure, look elsewhere.

Dale PRO: Comfortable massage chairs, reasonable pricing CON: Asked if gel would damage my nails, and was told "no." Less than a week later, the gel popped right off and surprise surprise, the nails were damaged. The gel was not applied to the entire nail, making it look like it was already a couple weeks old (picture taken immediately after visit.) I got the add-on callus removal and they slipped and shaved off part of the skin on my upper heel, which hurt and became red and inflamed in the following days and ended up scabbing over (photo is from 3 weeks later)

Audrey Ha Cindy is so sweet and fit me in last minute so I could have a fresh cut for a friends wedding. She is professional and friendly. Her space is warm, welcoming and she really knows her stuff. Will definitely be back again :)

LC Nichols Disclaimer: the hairdresser is my friend. Yes, my friend cut my hair. Ellie is amazing. She and my coworkers have heard and seen the disaster haircuts I have had. I went to walk in and very expensive salons. All terrible. I didnt want my friend to cut my hair but after the last disaster, what the hell... Ellie: attentive and provided options. I dont have much hair. I wanted a feather haircut with bangs. I got it!!! The layers were very well done and blended. The bangs were enough to look full and can be swipe right or left. Ellie is not your typical hairdresser. She is the best: she dry cut!!! I dont know too many hairdressers that dry cut. Ellie has the expert skills. You will not be disappointed. Highly recommend Ellie.

Im absolutely obsessed, she transformed my entire look in a quick hour and I swear I felt my soul leave my body when she was washing my hair, I was in heaven!! Emilia Bullock Not worth it whatsoever. Tried to have a nice day with my mom and ended up sitting for 3 hours, after one of their nail techs messed up my nails. To add my mom wanted french tips and the nail tech on the phone constantly, couldn’t do a straight line. Overall wasted way too much time.

D Lee My husband gets his haircut here now. He is Korean and has stubborn hair that grows outward more so when his hair grows out it can look messy if not cut right. After our Korean salon started increasing their rate, we decided to come here and have been really happy since! Even if he does not cut for more than 4 weeks, his hair does not look messy at all! His hair after 4 weeks is the photo with orange stripe shirt and his new hair cut is mint green sweater. Because we have been looking for a long time for a reasonable price salon, with good service with experience in cutting asian men hair. We felt compelled to leave a review in hopes to help anyone that may also be looking for a salon. According to my husband, the shampoo/massage is what makes the trip to the salon really worthwhile. Noticed you can even book a full massage service so I would assume the shampoo massage is top-notch. Look forward to getting my haircut here next time!

Belle Peng Omg YES they are finally re-opened! I drive 45min to this salon in Palo Alto because they have hands down the best hairdresser, Candy, and the nail tech is really meticulous, sweet and patient! I got my hair and nails done all here for my photo session. I colored and cut my hair, mani an pedi, and had an eyebrow wax. They have all the COVID procedure in place so I felt super comfortable. They also welcomed feedback, I told them what I wanted and they accommodated. Best kept secret gem of Bay Area!

Juliette Hu Fast haircut and extreme attention to detail! Friendly and skilled hairdresser. I wanted a wolf cut at a shorter length and she made it work for me! Even checked what my hair what look like in a ponytail to make sure I looked good in all angles. Really liked how my hair turned out since it was so long and tangled before. I will come back as Wendy’s regular.

Cameron Hudson I tried to go without an appointment, but they were booked solid for the rest of the day. They offered to make me an appointment for the next day, but I declined. It would be helpful if they had an online appointment system.

simon chen They assign you random rookie stylist who has no idea how to cut or style your hair if you don’t specify a stylist in advance. Avoid if you are new to this place. Definitely not worth the price.

H. U. Visited F&G because my usual haircutter is recovering from an injury. I have to say "wow!" This salon is the perfect place to go if you have Asian hair and want expert hair cutters to cut and style your hair that works with the way Asian hair works. They seem to have a solid following of expats from Asia who expect more style that is typical in places in Asia like China, Korea, Japan. I have never had a haircut where my stylist, Wendy, so deftly and expertly wielded her scissors to perform what most hair cutters in the US would use electric shears to do. She completed my haircut in half the time from my usual haircutter with far more precision, working with the way my hair grows so when I gel my hair, the style naturally just falls into place. Wendy is a keeper…now I just might need to switch!

Gargi Jackie is the best! I always come to her for dip nails. She is very gentle with your natural nails and cuticles, and the dip manicure looks as good on week 3 as it does on day 1. Furthermore Jackie is able to dip on super short nails as well, and the end result always looks excellent. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to take care of their natural nails and help them remain healthy and strong.

Nydia Cruz These ladies never disappoint! Julie always accommodates me no matter what!! And she gives the BEST shoulder massages!. Im super picky with my nails and Nikki did them exactly how I like them....PERFECT!! Their Everything Pedi is the best after a long days work. The gal who did my pedi was also very good. You will not regret seeing them! Their salon is super clean and inviting. Im a repeat client for sure!

Kaitlyn S Unexpected costs at the very end. I anticipated doing a 60$ pedicure and then at the end there was a $22 up charge that I was not aware of for removing my previous nail polish (on 4 toes). I was forced to go to the bank next door to get more cash and pay atm fee. I was going to leave a $20 tip but because of this extra fee, I wasn’t able to. I also got cut and bled, but then I was given a surprise neck massage which was weird but nice. I guess the service was good but will not be going back because of the lack of communication for up charges.

Armondo Loretto Best pedicure Ever by Jackie, her touch is magical. Came in with no appointment and had virtually no wait time even though it was very busy. Julie is amazing, so friendly and hospitable. Overall my experience here has been very pleasant. Looking forward to my next haircut with Allen, he is a true artĩst!!

Lori Hern This is second time I come here. So far, it’s been great and the staff is friendly. The salon is clean and spacious. They were gentle with my nails. The only thing I wanted my nails a little longer but I can deal with them for now.

Ben Bak Ken and Jeany are the best. $19 for mens haircuts with a $5 tip. $1 extra charge if using a credit card.

Aurora Christensen Leo is such a sweet guy. He seems genuinely happy to see folks as they come in and almost dances while he cuts. Ive gone for a cut and highlight so far and have been so happy. The cut is just amazing, he did a great job on my bob and it practically styles itself. Love the color too, he made it look very natural.

Anton Schneider Leo is great! He knows what he’s doing, cuts mostly with scissor and not with the machine. He’s always polite, sometimes we’re chatting a bit but we’re also comfortable with not talking. Plays cool jazz music. Fair price between 30-40$ for a men’s cut including washing (always after the cut which I prefer to get rid of the little hairs). Perfect hairdresser!!

Patricia Emmett At last a salon with excellent cutting by Leo...very thrilled with his cut on my fine hair, short, pixie cut....he took over an hour to restore my head from previous poor cut/style from other salon. Thoroughly recommend his cutting expertise and very fair price.

S Pantuev Some of the clients or staff don’t fill like walking so they park blocking the sidewalk. Not the first time. If you work here remember that you, doesn’t matter what’s your job here, you are face of the business, everyone is. And if your client parks on the sidewalk it will also harm your business. How? The car is blocking the entrance.

Fairmont San Mateo Every time I step into Larry Wells Salon I have a wonderful experience. First of all, the salon has taken lots of safety measures to go above and beyond being “covid-ready”. Larry is SUPER friendly (he is a GREAT listener), he’s very accommodating and he makes you feel VERY special and pampered…and he has such a bubbly personality!. Even if you go in not knowing what you want you are in good hands as Larry will offer his advice and expertise! You wont regret the outcome or the experience! I will definitely be back and I highly recommend you try Larry if youre looking for the perfect hair stylist!

Caylee Friedman Larry is my go-to stylist. Always ready, on time and very professional. He goes above and beyond to assure my comfort and happiness. He’s the only person I want to touch my hair!! I’m picky!! Salon is also super clean, and during the covid restrictions, well stocked with masks, temperature gauges, gloves and sanitizers. I’ve gone to Larry for many years and appreciate his focus and care towards me.

Caramel “[Caramel_Hot_Chocolate]” Very good hairstylist, you feel like you can ask for changes when they say “is this good?”

Jenny Brandemuehl Wonderful stylists - I’ve been coming here for years. They are expert at what they do whether it’s hair color, cut or Japanese oxygen treatment. Everyone here from the office manager to the owner are welcoming, friendly and helpful. I’ve had so many people compliment me on my hair color and hair style. I give the stylists at La Migliore the credit - the color they mix for me is true artistry!

Francys Chavez Walked to ask if they had availability. The lady at the desk said “let me check if someone can give you a quick consult” Two ladies came out, looked at my hair for 10 seconds. Told me it’ll take two hours. Didn’t touch my hair, didn’t ask any further questions. The “consult” was 3 mins and the lady charged me $27. For this pitiful consult. If she would have mentioned there was a charge, I would of politely declined. Ridiculous. Poor business relationship.

San Andreas I first visited this place three years ago when I moved to Menlo Park and really liked meeting the owner and hearing her personal story. I’ve since moved to SF but decided to book them for a haircut and a coloring. Ten minutes after I began my drive down 280 from SF the stylist called to tell me she was running a half hour late and if I could arrive then. I couldn’t as I had an appointment after in SF. When I told her about my conflict she lectured me about having booked the original time (3pm). I told her that I thought the appointment would take an hour, her response was cold - “NO, you were told the coloring would take an hour and cutting a bit more.” No apologies, no help with rescheduling. I am extremely busy and this affected important business plans I had. I understand delays, but it was the condescending and unhelpful response that was shocking. This stylist was extremely rude - and they’ve lost a customer forever.

Sparkles Run, dont walk to La Migliore Salon and find Lily. The salon has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, everyone is so nice here! Soft face framing layers and beautiful highlights done by Lily. She brought me from dark hair to blonde with so much dimension. She pays attention to detail and is incredibly talented at what she does. Thank you! I love love love my hair.

Manisha Patel I was ghosted after I called and told them I wasn’t happy with my hair and if another stylist can fix my hair. I just wanted money piece highlights, simple right? I was left with over processed hair and banding. Really dissatisfied with the whole process. I do not recommend this salon.

Helen Yu It is a horrible place. I had a terrible haircut. The style looks ugly. I expressed my unhappiness. But it is close to my house. I couldn’t find one close by. So On a Saturday, I walked in and they told me no schedule available. But there is a man walked in and they took him.

Rui W Took my boy for haircut on Sunday. The barber rushed to provide service in 15mins, and cut his right ear with slight bleeding. If you want to go to this place, at least avoid Sunday. Their good people are taking off this day. Also my 8 years got charged with regular men’s price, and she said kid price is 8years under. Hilarious.

Orly Liba Convenient location but the haircut I got was probably my least favorite ever (shorter than I expected and very puffy). The price of $45 surprised me and seems high for a basic womens haircut. Everything felt super slow and despite calling in advance I ended up waiting for over 10 minutes. The salon employees seemed very demotivated too. One of them literally said they dont want to be there and would rather be home.

Yogesh Sandhuja Been going here more than 10 years and this is still a 5 star business. Excellent place to get a hair cut, especially if you are local. Unlike other “fast cut” locations, most stylists here have been serving the same location for ages and you can always count on your favorite one being there the next time you want a cut. The salon is not fancy but they keep it clean, don’t rush you and don’t push for you to buy things you don’t want/need.

Johann DSouza This is a great place to get your hair cut. The owners and employees are all so kind and genuinely nice people. I came here after I had a bad experience at another Great Clips and the owner fixed my haircut which I was really appreciative of. For the short time I was sitting in the waiting area, multiple customers came in and requested specific stylists which goes to show that they do quality work. I definitely recommend them.

Öznur Özbalık I recently visited Isabel at Julian Chase salon with high hopes of getting a beautiful hair color transformation. Unfortunately, my experience with Isabel turned out to be a complete disaster. I cannot express how disappointed and frustrated I am with the outcome. Firstly, Isabel clearly has no idea how to dye hair. Its shocking to see someone who claims to be a professional in the field make such amateur mistakes. She completely ruined my hair color, leaving it looking worse than before. The color she applied was completely off from what I had requested, and the end result was an absolute nightmare. Now my hair is Orange, black, brown and yellow !!! Not only did she fail to achieve the desired color, but the application itself was also incredibly messy. It was evident that Isabel lacked precision and attention to detail. My hair was left unevenly colored, with patches of darker and lighter shades scattered throughout. It was clear that she had no clue what she was doing. Furthermore, Isabel gave me a follow up appointment that she MISSED !! She had to reschedule me for next day in attempt to fix, just to make it worse To make matters worse, Isabel displayed a dismissive and unprofessional attitude throughout the entire experience. When I voiced my concerns about the disastrous outcome, she refused to take any responsibility and blamed it on my hair type or claimed that it was what I asked for. It was clear that she lacked the humility and expertise to handle such situations. I strongly advise anyone considering visiting Isabel for hair color to reconsider. Save yourself the frustration, disappointment, and potential damage to your hair. Isabels lack of skills, knowledge, and professionalism make her completely unfit to work in this industry. In conclusion, my experience with Isabel was nothing short of a nightmare. She completely ruined my hair color, demonstrated a lack of competence, and showed no concern for the damage she caused. I would strongly advise against entrusting your hair to someone as inexperienced and careless as Isabel.

Gaelyn Chappel Gabe takes care of all the family. My fussy husband will go no where else...his hair is hard to cut. My hair is always looked after and.... important to me, it grows out well. I always have color as well, and he is great with that as well. Both my kids are overjoyed with whatever he does. Perm, cut, color. Knows his stuff

Nomadically After numerous attempts to book an appointment with this Salon using a Groupon coupon, the hair stylist who was extremely rude, expected me to do her administration for her. Bad customer service. I took an entire day to go to this salon to get my hair highlighted, the coupon read “color touch up”, this is misleading text because of course when I went to the Salon she tacked another $100 to the price. Additionally she made an extremely racist comment about my accent regarding being American. I am a US Citizen. She is not. Highly inappropriate behaviour. Extortionate salon. Don’t go here. Support America.

Taurus Aries Do not come here! I came here to cut my hair. I saw it was five-star for “Quy Hairstyle” on google map, so I thought it would be a very pleasant experience. However, it was only three to four cuts for $85. Can you believe it? Like wet hair without any technique involved!! The hairdresser also had very tough hair wash techniques that made my hair so uncomfortable. I expressed my unhappiness but she didn’t change! It was totally different from the services I received in a Japanese hairstyle with the same price. Do not come here for haircut for the fake five star reviews! See this Salon Millennium hairstyle reviews! Add-on 12/30/2024: I was sent phone call and texts after I left a 2-star review. It was through Zelle payment so the privacy was also intruded! The hairdresser asked me to go back and fix but it still makes me uncomfortable: if can be done better the first time, why not?

Nidhi S I got Balayage hair color done from this salon and they did a tremendous job. Elena asked for my preference and explained the process really well. She was able to exactly replicate the look I wanted. I valued her recommendations as she is a well experienced professional. She did a great job. Her daughter Sahar assisted and made amazing curls (see my picture :)). She was extremely sweet and polite. It was delightful to see mother and daughter working together. They are fun. Although they more of look like sisters :). The salon is beautiful, clean and they had great equipments. The Christmas tree was a cherry on the top. The location is really prime as it’s located in Palo Alto downtown next to the Apple Store. It’s at 30 second walk from 2 parking lots. The garage has 3 hour free parking and the open parking is free for 2 hours (Mon - Friday) until 5 pm. Overall a great experience and I would definitely go back to this salon! Feeling pampered! :)

Ivan Primachenko Im not a picky person about my haircuts but their quality is really unacceptable. I showed photos of my last haircut but the hairdresser did not pay the slightest attention to my wishes. After the haircut I looked like a caricature from a newspaper: sticking hair of different length etc. It was so hilariously awful that I had to go to another barber to fix Stanford Hair "haircut". By the way, the price was 27 dollars for a simple male haircut - far from dirt cheap.

Mhm I am not very picky about my hair so may be not a very qualified person here but I got the hair cut I wanted and am happy with it. The place was a bit hard to find for me though. The price was 24$. There was no long waiting also. Will go there again most probably.

Elton Jose I will tell you this, I will never come back to that place. Bad services, bad staff, and the place is warm with no AC (during summer). The person was cutting my hair was lazy (just rotating the chair with no chance to me to see the haircut), and I did not feel that I should continue the haircut (no confidence on that person) when I told him that it was not nice. So, I just said: "Yes, it is fine. Let me pay it." I would like to ask the owners to change at least the staff and improve a bit the service. You guys have a very nice location but if the service is bad, the people will not go.

My haircut choice is always simple, and I explicitly told her what I wanted, but she had trouble even with making my bangs the same length. I had to go back to my dorm and fix my hair after the atrocious work she did. My hair was completely uneven and I am never giving this place my money again.
