Erin Guagenti Elsie rules! When I moved to Marin, I went fumbling my way through salons and stylists. Ive got super thick, wavy hair and no one could quite figure out how to get the cut or color right (let alone both). I was getting discouraged when I happened upon James Rose Salon and Elsie Baroni has proven herself a miracle worker. Not only has she given me beautiful cuts (Ive grown my hair out for the first time ever, nearly all the way down my back, because she somehow manages to keep it big and bouncy and not too heavy on top) and her color is *truly* top notch. Check the James Rose Instagram account if you want to see her work - Ill regret when it gets even harder to get on her calendar, but would love for someone else on the same search for a stylist this talented to be spared the grizzly bumps along the way that I went through, and perch in Elsies chair instead.

My daughter is a mixed race and has hair texture that most salons/stylists don’t understand the skill needed to work with it. My daughter received 2 Brazilian blowouts that damaged her hair to the point she nearly lost the entire length. (Neither blowouts we’re done at Curltology) Prior to blowouts she had hair length underneath her armpits. After several months her was breaking off that left her hair length to her ears and it was wispy and uneven. My 1st appointment was a consult and by the end of the consult my daughter and I made the decision to work with Chioma, because she explained to us in details the treatment requirements and was honest about the length of time it would take to get the result we were looking for. Edgar De Leon If you’re looking for a VIP boutique experience, you’ve come to the right place. Hollz curates an exclusive atmosphere for her clients with her attention to detail and service. You really get to relay what you’re looking for without the distractions of noisy crowded bars. My fave is that there’s always great lighting, so you never have to sit in a “bad chair” that’s far away from any lighting. You are the “star” for that hour, Highly recommend her a fresh cut!

They’re an old mom and pops business that’s been around for a while and it shows I’m so happy. The food in SF? The amazing people of NorCal? Nah, what I miss most is getting my haircut by David Karvesales from David James Salon. And it’s not close. David is not only the most talented stylist I’ve ever had, he’s also been the most consistent. He’s cut my hair for the last seven years and I swear that every time I left his salon, I had to send him a text to let him know that he surpassed the last cut he gave me. He did it every single time. Oh, and he’s also the coolest person you’ll ever meet. Unpretentious, kind, generous and so fun to talk to. I should have never moved. One of the biggest mistakes of my life.

Nick White David, the attentive and skilled proprietor of this business, is a master with styling and cutting hair. With guidance or without, he will have you looking and feeling your best after a session with him. His skill set is clearly desired as booking an appointment with him sometimes takes well over a month—plan accordingly. If he isn’t available, he also employs a staff of many other skills stylists, barbers, and colorists. David, and the DAVID JAMES salons, are well worth a visit.

They completely understand my hair needs and give me amazing haircuts, color and styling for my curls. The blowouts are also quick and make my hair look beautiful. They offer a lot of hair care here. I have went from blonde extensions, to dark hair, back to long dark extensions! All done by Bishlam! Melanie Walker Anyone that is particular about their hair, man or woman, goes to Brewer Phillips. I have personally been going to Ann 40 years and even though that is forever, she continually surprises me with how up to date and modern she is. Always continuing her education with new styles and the latest products she also sells in her salon. Her color and haircutting expertise is beyond compare anywhere in Marin or the bay. She is an owner/operator and has a gorgeous salon with other stylists available as well. Make an appointment because they are that booked and the cancellation list is quite long if you feel lucky. There is, in my opinion, no other salon to go to

Maranda Asbell Had an appointment with Holly. She was able to cut my hair just how I had wanted it, after I showed her a few photos on my phone of different hair styles that I wanted aspects from. Holly absolutely nailed how I wanted my hair. I dont always have a great way of explaining how I want my hair, but she executed it perfectly. She was very professional, and all around I would absolutely recommend her. I will never go to anyone else!

Patricia Palmerston First of all, this place is BEAUTIFUL and has so many services offered (that I still have yet to try out). I came here for hair styling and received amazing service from Holly Schaefer, which I had expected because Ive been her client for over 4 years. I recommend asking for her first if shes available, but anyone here is highly skilled. She does great styling work and every time I see her she seems to have just learned a new style from a specialty class so it seems like she really likes to keep up with new trends and adapt her style. I honestly cant say enough good things about her styling, but I wanted to add that she is a COLOR EXPERT and did a beautiful job on my sisters hair when I took her for her birthday. Even if you go through her instagram (handle #styledinmarin) you can see the range of coloring, cuts for everyone and all hair textures, and even wedding hair styling. Amazing stylist and great conversationalist and can even pick up on when you dont really feel like having a conversation which is a very preferable skill when its your day off and you just want to relax. Ashlyn McKnight I was ready to make a major styling change by shaving half my head, and Victoria was amazing in being able to get clear in what I wanted and how to do it.
