Mattie Hunter This is the absolute BEST nail salon in the entire Bay Area. Every technician is exceptional. My nails are perfect every single time. The salon is clean, there are many colors to choose from, and the staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly. They want you to leave happy. They also use Venmo which I find to be convenient. Call and make an appointment because they book quickly!

Veronica Quevedo Olvera I just felt weird because nobody spoke to me. The ladies in the entrance were just pointing to an IPad while I was saying hi and telling them that I wanted to trim my hair. No body answered, and they continued pointing to the IPad. So I registered myself and then I told them again. They moved me from one place to another and just asked me about nails or eyebrows. Again, I told them to "trim" and did some mimic with my hair and hands. I really thought that maybe they didnt know English. Finally, one lady trimmed my hair. That lady was ok. And my hair is ok. Just the welcome part. Maybe you can improve that. Thank you

Channe This is my go to place for eyebrows. The ladies are very skilled and lovely. They waxed my arms within 30 minutes. I love how they put oil over my arms. Lot of parking and very nice ambience outside and inside store.

Shelly Chatterjee The gel polish didn’t even last 1 week and I think the reason is probably too little polish applied when coatings were put on back to back. Attached are the pics of chipped nails on day 4. I saw all the good reviews, not sure what happened in my case! Also for the pedicure, the surface of the nails weren’t filed properly and you could see my uneven nails over the polish

Sandra Huang I’ve walked pass by this place many times and finally got a chance to give it a try. The place is very clean and quiet, I almost fell asleep while they did my pedicure. The staffs were very attentive and gentle. I am very satisfied with their work and I will definitely come back.

Debbie Had an acrylic set put on, used a reference pic but not even close. Nails were rather thick and one thumb slightly crooked. Called for a fill and color change after telling me she didnt have anything open today I asked for future appointment which she said the girl that does the acrylics wont be back for 3 weeks. So back to finding a better place.

Natalie Luu JJ is a new nail salon that has become my go-to in San Mateo. I love that they give a complimentary foot hot wax soak and calf massage for pedicures, and forearm and hand massage for manicures.

Minda Newhouse The gel lab is my new happy place. Their customer service is unmatched. I broke my foot and they literally helped me get in out of the salon and moved my car for me. With my nails I never dreamed I could have had this much growth and happy nail beds but they mad it happen (this after 3 appointments with gel builder). But more than anything I love the community, the sisterhood, the laughs, and general vibes. If you live in the Bay Area you are dumb if you go anywhere else.

Claire, the owner and the techs are really nice and always know exactly what I want. Gel-x is definitely a step above acrylic and has been helping my natural nails also grow out healthily. Masy S I am in love with this salon! They have done such a beautiful job with my nails! I show them pictures of ideas I like with patterns, jewels, and glitter and they make it happen. But they make it better! They harness extreme talent and make it an art. Sure they are great at single colors, but if you are like me and looking for artful nails this is your place!! It is so difficult to find someone who can do patterns....but someone who can do patterns, gemstones, jewels, 3D artwork, glitter work, flowers, artwork....well lets just say unicorns do exist!! The staff is very friendly and happy on top of being knowledgeable. I enjoy talking with them whenever I have gone. I am looking forward to having them do my nails for my wedding because I would trust no one else!

LL Kal Booked in to do my lashes, I was charged $185 for medium hybrid lashes. Went home found out the price range is usually around $80-$120. I was ripped off and the lashes I got done was definitely not worth $185. Owner is desperate for $$ so over charging new customers. Will not be returning to this salon.

The place was very clean and friendly. They gave us water after our massage with some cookies and 2 face mask as complimentary on our way out. We will certainly book our next massage here again.

Sura I liked the place and the body massage, but i didnt like it when they forced me to give tips on my way out! I wasnt informed that i have to give tips, and the tips are already priced too, so you cant give whatever you want. The front desk lady is kida rude and ruined my experience.

Ilona Kelvet Been to this place 3 times. Always have gotten good service and good nails which is why I came here today. However, my manicure was done in 25mins, skin clipped carelessly to the point I almost got a wound and the coating / drying was not well done with edges remaining white, polish still transparent and not equally coated. To top it off I asked for matted polish, she forgot and did shiny. I will have to redo this in 1-2 days in a different salon so money and time waisted. I think they need to stick to their standards or all the clients will run off elsewhere.

She helped me with choosing my color and I love it so much! Even when I messed up my one finger right after they finished the manicure, she immediately took off the entire nail polish from that finger at painted it all new. No questions asked. Who: Jennifer and Luna Space: Relaxing, recently renovated, music on point First time visiting, noticed no reviews, so figured I would give it a chance. As soon as I came in, I felt relaxed. Jennifer helped me pick the color I was looking for, something neutral, that wouldn’t blend with my skin, with a pink tone. Luna did great in preparing and doing mani. Jennifer was quick and great at feet, super fast. You could tell she was trying to help everyone and giving everyone attention. - Great customer service! Luna was very nice and assisted in everything to make mani easy and not ruin it. She also did the waxing, very quick and made sure comfortable. Everyone on staff pleasant. Luna did her best to perfect it, and I highly appreciate it. Highly encourage you all to go there, bc they won’t rush and they will be there for you. 5 star customer service.

viviana suarez Well I was looking for a Nail Salon in the area and I found this on yelp also a friend of mine recommended it, so without hesitation, I went to this place. The ladies were so nice, but unfortunately, the lady who was doing my manicure was rushing, making me feel anxious, she was doing it so fast, and some of my nails got bumped and got bubbles in them. The pedicure was nice and good but the quality of the nail polish is rough, or I dont know what happen but it does not look at all... I left some pics and a video.

Christina Ng Started with a call a couple weeks before, to make a reservation for a group of 5 for a bridal party. Requested Jennifer for the bride. Called a couple days before to confirm. Actual day we only had 4 of us but they didn’t blink or say anything about the change. Appreciated that there was no issues with the change. We did mani and pedi. They offer bottled water. I am very wishy washy about the nail color. Always look at others and cannot decide. I showed photos but ended up not likening the color so they tested a couple for me to make sure I was happy. Everyone was friendly some nail techs were a lot more talkative which was nice. Would definitely come back. My gel manicure lasted 2.5 weeks. It would probably last a month but it was growing off.

Tiffany Wu This is a low profile location so its relatively easy to get an appointment (I usually call the same day) and a slight uphill walk up a block is good for my behind :) The staff here do a very thorough job and are super friendly. Space is clean and well ventilated (I dont love the smell of nail polish that can be overwhelming in some places). Mary worked on my pedicure yesterday and I was impressed by how much care she took, even doing some buffing to smooth out the nail bed... definitely more than a lot of other folks have done!

Melika Nejad So today actually wasnt the first time I came to this nail salon, in fact, I promised I wouldnt come back to this salon a long time ago because the first time I came my nail stylist was a bit anti-social and rough with positioning my hands. This time around I wasnt able to even get my nails done. We arrived at 5:30 when our (my sister and is) appointment was and we had to wait almost an hour and they only took my sister. At the end of the day when they asked me if I wanted to get my nails done I just said no or else we would have stayed there until 8 pm (we ended up leaving at 7 pm). My sisters nails looked decent, but seemed amateur and she was cut a couple of times which was what happened during my first experience with them getting acrylics. I dont usually make reviews like these but I couldnt help but make one for this establishment since I have been to multiple places and this is the only place I may never come back to. I hope the business does well regardless of this review, but I hope they use this as constructive criticism to better their services.

Vi was the technician who helped me this time, and she took the time to ask and understand exactly what i wanted. She was so sweet, gentle and kind. Lindsay Crom Universe nails always provides a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere! The nail techs are professional and well qualified! Over several years I’ve tried other places but always find I never get the same level of services or care! my nails not only look great and last- they are healthier and always feel much better after a universe pedicure and manicure!!! The extra touches the warm rock massage, the water/tea and treat and the techs always ask me how I’m doing and how my services are! High recommend a visit anytime you need a little relaxation or pampering and all your nail care needs!

Nicole Baltazar Mediocre at best. Nail tech behaved strangely. Insisted on not cutting my nails even though I asked her to multiple times, did a poor job filing, resulting in jagged ends. Did not fix (except to add top coat, which did not fix the problem). Left the salon with pock-marked nails (see pic) and had to go back for them to fix. Not enough color coats so color looks uneven. Made my finger bleed. She kept complementing her own work the entire time, saying how beautiful it was. I dont agree.

Suna Mert I had permanent nail polish, the next day, an extra fee was asked to fix my broken nails. Their approach was not friendly. I am not satisfied at all, I definitely do not recommend it to anyone. They also charge more than other salons. And the finished version at the end, its amazing. We asked if you liked it, they answered yes, we liked it very much. I think they are making fun of me.

David Really mediocre manicure from Julie. I guess dont come here if youre a guy. I cant imagine she does this bad a job with her other customers. The pedicures that we got were very nice, though.

Jen Chon $45 for basic pedicure +$10 for extra 10 min of massage + $30 for mani Color was smeared on the sides of my toe nails and past the cuticles! So messy! Massage - I kept asking her to massage harder and also to focus on the feet and ankle but she kept just rubbing my calf (easy movements). Really disappointing when I requested extra massage time. My friend had his finger nails done as mani with no color, and black dirt remained beneath his finger nails!!! Total for 1 Mani + 2 Pedi was $195 = $140+$20+$20+15 (3 different tips) To top it off, the massage chair my friend sat in didnt work and we asked if they had a cup or bottle of water as we were thirsty. They said NO. For the high prices here, its extremely poor quality service with not even a "perk" of them bringing out a cup of water. Definitely cannot recommend!

Liva C The service at this spa is excellent, and the staff are welcoming. However, the gel nail polish has consistently been disappointing. It starts peeling off in less than a week, and right after the application, the polish often appears uneven, with the edges sticking out. Within a day or two, it begins to chip and snag on things, making it impossible to maintain. I stopped visiting the spa because of this issue, but when I gave it another try, the same problem occurred. It seems like either the quality of the polish they use is poor, or the application process isn’t done correctly.

Song Chang I love nail salons like this where the service is impeccable and the ambience is calm and serene. There are no TVs, just calming music. From the moment I walked in, being greeted, and then taken care of immediately, to the nail technicians working on me, I loved everything about this place. You can tell they care about customer service and its soooo clean, spotless. The floors, the ceilings, the detailing, the decor, everything is intentional and I love that. I also loved loved loved that I could book online. I hate having to call in to make an appointment. Ha spent an hour on my pedicure and Lily did my nails. Both were great and I will definitely be book marking this spot and coming back.

Liliana Trujillo Came in at 1pm and for 30 min had my feet in cold Water. Never once did she come and offered to change it or to see if I was okay. Its now 2pm ONE FULL hour of me walking in and NOONE came and offered anything.. No friendly service or communication whatsoever. Lady in a purple outfit completely ignored me and assisted another client during that full hour. Horrible service!

Frankie C service is very quick and friendly! I love that you can do walkins or appointments. Staff and diligent and friendly. The place is pretty spacious and clean. I had a terrible manicure once and thought I’d never get one again but Linda and her staff made me feel comfortable enough to want to try again and the nail shape came out perfect, cuticles neat and clean and best of all they didn’t make me bleed (which is what I was worried about). This is my second time back and will be back again, would definitely recommend if you’re in the area and the prices are very reasonable!

Min Peng Service was good and friendly, but the quality was so bad. I got the normal gel manicure. No fancy stuff. When it’s done, it looked okay. However, one of my nails chipped after 2 days. Within one week, 4 more nails chipped…I was just in shock. I will have to get it removed soon since it bothers me so much.

Lupe Corona Just some of my most recent full sets. I love going here. This is my favorite spot in the entire Bay Area. I literally live in Oakland and make sure to still make my appts here. I am one of those people who comes in with a picture of what I want and they never fail me! Also the sets last FOREVER. Or at least a month in my experience with not one nail falling off. I kid you not I work at VS and use my nails to stab through tape and open boxes up. Durable, affordable for the bay, and amazing!!

Shannon Dean I made an appointment for a pedicure with salon four days ago for 4:30. I watched the employee write down the appointment in their book. When I arrived on time for my appointment, the three employees were just getting started on three other customers. When I asked if they were going to be able to service me on time the employee kept trying to brush me off stating that it would be in 15 minutes. When 15 minutes rolled around I asked her to be honest with me and to tell me when they could get to me. She continued to evade the question and tried to pacify me by saying “soon,” when clearly each of the employees were at the beginning of their services. She also kept trying to tell me to “just sit inside.” Say what? Sit INSIDE?! COVID tells me otherwise. I guess this business decided to prioritize a walk-in over an appointment. Horrible customer service!

Kay Valenz Wear a face mask if you plan on getting your nails done here! The lady who did my nails did a decent job but her coworkers had a nasty attitude. One of them stepped all over my shoes and didnt even apologize for it. She then began filing someone elses nails with the electric-filer pretty near my face, which created a heavy-unhealthy nasty nail dust for anyone to breathe! I asked her to please wait till I was done, or perhaps use another chair, because I didnt want to breath someone elses nasty old-nail-dust... and she replied "you move"! And began badmouthing me in her native language with the rest of the manicurists. Im a white woman and do not speak their language but their demeanor was too obvious! Well, not sure what went wrong here since Ive never experienced SO much negative attitude in any nail salon. The crazy part is that the place was almost empty, except for the other woman and me. Conclusion: I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!

One thing that I was moved by, is that Jenny the (owner) knew everyone by name who walked in. That kind of hospitality is huge for me, so now I get my nail fills & Pedis done there. I am so grateful & appreciative to Pink Nails because they are WONDERFUL!! ...And now I walk in and feel like family :-)

Heather Lin Their nail painting job is really bad. We did the basic mani and pedi and this is what it looks like a few hours later. Note the clear coat did not cover the entire colored part causing it to look very uneven. Also I think they were rushing and didn’t wait at all between the coats so it’s still not dried even though it’s been hours. I do give them one star because they were friendly and the basic cleaning of cuticle and dead skin was fine

However I did ask "how do I set up an appointment with you for another time?" 3 times as they continued to say theyre booked today and thats it, shook their heads at each other without further explanation to me. As I clarify again id like to set up an appointment for when youre next available, the lady points to where she thinks I can get service down the road somewhere while I continue to explain that I wanted service here. However, the quality of the nail service was excellent. The technician followed my instructions perfectly, and my nails turned out exactly as I wanted. If you prioritize great nails over chatty service, this salon is a good choice.

徐瑞智 Strongly recommend AGAINST this salon I came here to have my nail gel removed. They did it in a barbaric way. They kept saying it’s hard to remove. They never removed nail gel like this. I did my nails in Taiwan. And it’s a regular nail gel. If they couldn’t remove it in a proper way, they shouldn’t have received me in the first place. They scrubbed my nails til there were scratches on my real nail surfaces and left even some dents. My nails are totally damaged. They are now coarse and fragile. Never been to any salons worse than this place. Btw, nail gel removal is 15 dollars. They expected me to tip them afterwards. I tipped two dollars but I shouldn’t have tipped them for damaging my nails. They accept cash only.

janet oates We, hubs and I have been going to Starlight for years. They are very nice and we appreciate how they care for us old folks (we are in our 80s) As one ages our nails become thick, they never complain and do a good job. We love the extras on our feet, the foot and leg massages, the hot wax, it is such a luxury.

Samantha Takizawa I was very disappointed with the service I received. I asked for my nails to not be cut, and she proceeded to cut one of my hands fingers. Now I have very uneven nails on one hand. The polish was only half done and I have large sections of the nail that were not painted on both hands. The pedicure I got also cut my nails so short that they are painful. The polish was all over my cuticles and was an overall mess. Very disappointed.

Rebecca Julinet I called a few salons in the area because I needed a gel overlay (aka poly gel) fill and this one said they did it. When I arrived for my appointment, they sat me down right away and I reminded them that I was there for a gel acrylic overlay fill. Not only did they go on and on saying that there’s no such thing as poly gel, but that I had acrylic and NOT poly gel, so Anna proceeded to put acrylic bonding liquid on each of my nails and my nails stared to MELT! It gets worse, she said she didn’t know what was happening and instead quickly put acrylic OVER MY MELTING GEL NAILS! Below is the inspo pic I showed and the quite terrible final result. Asked for a refund, considering that my poly gel was melted and ruined, but they said no.

Barbara They always do a great job. I get a pedicure with polish. There have been a few times I have had an ingrown toe nail and they have been able to remove the ingrown part. They also do a nice job with my manicure. They are always friendly.

She was very rough and my nails are hurting really badly! Usually the other ladies are very good at it but this is the first time I got Anna to do my nails and never again!

Celja and Nathan Churches I was a walk-in wanting a regular nail polish manicure. The shop wasn’t too crowded, so I picked my polish (many of the polishes looked super crusty) and sat down with Kimmi. She spent 15 minutes with me, tops. She rushed the nail polish application without letting the layers dry in between. The clipping/buffing utensils didn’t look sterilized (not in an autoclave/sealed bag), though I asked and she said they were. I left and the polish looked ok, but only 3 hours later (as the under layers finally started to dry) the polish started cracking underneath the top layer. Only reason I’m giving 2 stars is the hand massage felt nice and the manicure was cheap. Otherwise I’d avoid this place and spend a bit more on a quality shop whose polish lasts more than 3 hours.

Angela Martinez Horrible my daughter came here on an emergency because she had an event for tomorrow, and her nail lady couldn’t fit her in her schedule. To begin with my daughter already had acrylics so she asked to get them removed to get new ones. They proceeded to rip them off piece by piece and kept on dipping it and acetone when they couldn’t get certain parts which looked painful. They left monomer all over her fingers. The acrylic wasn’t laid even it was super thick. We spent like two hours there as you can see they’re very short she changed the nail color once because my daughter didn’t like the first color. I told her I would pay her extra for the inconvenience, but she was still rude about it

Tracy Crouthamel I got a pedicure, no polish "shiny buff". Very nice staff, professional kind, great with special requests. I marked it 4 stars because the footbath didnt have jets and the massage chairs are not good for anyone under 6 tall, very awkward to sit in and enjoy the chair massage (but thats 95% of massage chairs on the market) - just really wanted the footbath jets. Salons very dishevelled too and messy and one of the neon lights above buzzes, but dispute that, it was very calm feeling and there wasnt a lot of nail smell which is good too :) So 4 stars, pretty good. Might go again.

Thao Tran I’m in love with my nails. Having my short trip to Burlingame to visit my friend and got a surprise nails service done by Phil. He did a wonderful job. My nails originally sensitive, but it went really well by Phil’s techniques. I have to ask him help me take picture to send to my husband right away. Plus nail salon is clean, well-organized and has friendly vibes with warm welcome. I highly recommend this place and will come back again for sure.

Yauyau Tsang First, the place has a very strong chemical smell and does not look clean. I waited for 15mins even I had an appointment. I was told powder nail was $45, but then realised that if you choose to do powder nails, removing cuticles and massage would not be including, which I really don’t think it makes any sense. I have never experienced a manicure place don’t remove cuticles. One of the ladies there was very rude and said if I want the cuticles be removed, I would have to pay $7 and it’s because the powder material is more expensive and their boss told them to do less steps if a customer chooses to do powder. I mean if you don’t think the price is right, you should raise your price instead of trying to scam customers without clear items listed. What’s ridiculous is if you pick normal gel nails, removing cuticles and massage are included, but not for powder, which makes total no sense to me. Additionally, the quality was bad. The shape of my nails are not good. The lady made my nails very thick because she kept making mistakes and putting extra layers to cover it. The tips of my nails look chipped and there are many dusts in my nails. This is my worst manicure experience ever!! I will never be back again!!! Rude staffs!

shantaya orlando Nail Box is my go-to nail salon! They know how to do everything especially on trend stuff like: chrome, hard gel/builder gel, intricate nail art/design, and gel X, (which is hard to find in San Mateo!) I go to Ananya for my finger nails - she’s the best! & Cherry for my toes, also amazing!! I see other nail artists here do amazing work too! The salon is cute, and easy parking right across the street. I definitely recommend nail box for all your nail needs.

Jackie Carrillo I went in about 2 weeks ago and Just writing a review now. I’m really upset with the service they provided this time around. I got my acrylics done and the women that did the job just did terrible, really upset. She asked me how long I wanted my nails and I said long but not that long, she went on and cut the fist nail I told her to redo it because it was cricked and she got mad and said something in her language. While doing my nails she held my nails really tight, she like “ relax your hand”, oh it was relax and it really hurt my fingers the way she way grabbing them. She did a horrible job, the acrylics were to think and uneven. Really upset with the service. This women was new because I’ve never seen her before.

I took my mom to get a pedicure as a gift — the lady doing her nails was EXTREMELY rude. Told my mom she didn’t have the right toenails for a French tip and refused to a do it if it wasn’t her way or the colors she suggested. My mom asked her if could scrub her heel as there were missing patches. The lady said no because it was “too much work”.

M A To the lady who did my nails Thursday in booth 3, you really hurt both of my thumbs. You went in too deep with that cuticle trimmer. My thumbs are painful and raw. You guys have to stop cutting into the cuticle like you do and pay attention that thats skin you’re working with not a fake hand. Also, manicure and nail shaping FIRST before dip powder, not last. Attention to detail is a must. If you want my money, you have to do better. All of you. Dont do nails if you don’t care about people’s nail health.

Alicia Khor I got acrylics and it was my first time and first time doing acrylic nails from them. The turn out was good but the removal of the acrylics was horrible. The person DID NOT use any acetone to soak or remove my nails. Not one drop of acetone was used. Removals cost $15 and the fact that acetone wasn’t used is appalling. Instead, only a nail clipper and a piece of an unused acrylic nail was used to remove my nails. The process was so harsh on my nails that one of it was lifted up a little and it tore my skin at the bottom of my nails. It was slightly bleeding and all she did was put a thin layer of acrylic paste to “patch” it up on my middle finger. Needles to say that it was a painful experience for my first time getting acrylics and the removal of them.

Rebecca S I’m getting really tired of Bay Area businesses charging so much for sub-par services. The place smells very strongly, they need to add more ventilation. While they were able to seat me as a walk-in, I was not satisfied with the gel manicure I received. They should have added an extra layer, but they didn’t, so the final nails look patchy. They charged $40 for this. I did not tip.
