The other transmission shops in the area said it would take 2 weeks or more to get her back on the road again. John said he could do it in a few days. We had previously been experiencing a miss in the motor and had taken it to two GM dealers....neither one could find the problem. John found the problem and fixed it in about a hour. John was very upfront and honest....and her truck runs like a top now.

5 /5 Eric Crane: One of our service trucks broke down along the road with a bad transfer case. We called Mendocino Transmission to make sure they had room for our truck. The new owner John made room for us and was able to diagnose the problem, show us the issue and recommend a solution the next day. The transfer case had a catastrophic failure and needed to be replaced. While a remanufactured case was on order Mendocino Transmission serviced the transmission and both the front a rear differentials. The replacement transfer case arrived and was installed the same day. The price for all of the above, including the new transfer case, was less than a Jasper transfer case sitting in a box. Excellent service, great prices and very helpful staff. If you have a problem with your car or truck this is a great place to go.

5 /5 Guy Chatterton: I left Fortuna On my way to the East Coast and my transmission gave out. I Called them and they said to bring it right in. They diagnosed the problem and I ordered a new transmission. It took 7 days for the transmission to be shipped to them.. They installed it on the 8th day which was the 18th of May. I left at noon on the 18th and I drove for 3 days straight to get back to North Carolina.. No problems. John was very helpful in locating me a place to stay while I waited on the transmission. 5 /5 Douglas Dodds: John is one of those rare HONEST auto mechanics. We have had 2 vehicles serviced there and in both cases he diagnosed and repaired the problem without suggesting more expensive diagnostic or repairs. I highly recommend this shop for competent and honest work and excellent customer service. The details: In one case, the transmission of our 20 year old Ford Explorer was having problems. He told us it was failing but probably not worth repairing unless it was our only car. Most recently we took our 1986 Chevy C-20 Silverado to John after another Fort Bragg mechanic (with a similar business) delivered our car back to us barely running. John immediately diagnosed the problem on the phone as reversed spark plug wires and when we brought the car in that was exactly the issue. (The other incompetent mechanic in Fort Bragg had reversed the wires when doing a tune up and was trying to charge us big bucks to diagnose and then fix the issue). In short, we will be bringing all of our cars to John at Mendocino Automotive and Transmission in Ukiah in the future.
