5 /5 Tracey Turner: This is a wonderful sacred space and grounds! I was welcomed, along with my partner and a close friend, at a recent powwow hosted at the church.
As a non-indigenous individual attending her first powwow proper, I was a little nervous about offending anyone or doing something uncouth... but fret not, young Queen! Everyone was warm and welcoming, and giving and informative in their own way. The grounds are well-kept by a *very* small team. The Sanctuary is historic and breathtaking. Parking is easy.
I particularly appreciated the powerful sounds and movement, the participatory nature of the event, the gorgeous landscaping and central courtyard, the open design of the main hall, the inclusivity, and the fry bread, the savory and the sweet! (¡Claro que sí!)
But my favorite was exploring the Sanctuary. Burning sage was so therapeutic and grounding. Be sure to visit the upper level, if you can. Its inspiring that the (sizeable and "old") property is sustained not only by the Native American Methodist congregation but is also supported by the Catholic church that meets there 3 times a week, as well as by Inspire Arts organization. Especially as an artist and arts educator, I found immense joy in seeing the photos of the happy artists in the main hall.
Services open to All Souls every Sunday at 10:30am. Plus, check out Pastor Greg (Gregory Douglass) on YouTube! Hes a living saint. Blessed be. ✨️ Tracey T..
