1 /5 alphonso blunt: UPDATED 6/14/25 I confirmed last night that I was billed for ac delco spark plugs at $9 each, yet they installed auto lite plugs which go for 3.99 each (photos attached) Had the motor not been removed, I wouldnt have known! Now I can add fraud to the list!
Referred to this place by a few respected individuals in the Fairfield area and car scene, even attended the same car show a couple weeks before together (I won a award that day for the car). I needed some touch up work done in preparation for hot August this year. My regular mechanic was overbooked and couldnt take my car in, so I searched for someone with skills working on old schools. Again 3 associates suggested I go to rubens. I called, let them know who referred me, what I wanted done, and made an appointment. When I arrived after I had already checked them out online I was impressed and felt like I was in the right place. We walked through and I gave him my notes on what I wanted done. He took the list, told me his suggestion, et up to do diagnostic, I paid a deposit and I left. They called later that day said they were able to complete some of the list, but Id have to come back in a few weeks to finish the rest. Ruben stated to me personally that I have a great car, showed me all he worked on and what he needed to finish, but gave the all clear to roll until then. I scheduled my return appointment. When I had it towed in for the 2nd appointment (carburetor install, and tune up). He called me in a frantic saying the tow driver let my car down without a winch and I may have transmission damage. I filed a claim with my insurance company. They completed the job, called me later that day and I picked up the car (April 15th 2025). I drove home car ran great, the next day while driving home from an outing, the car throttle got stuck, then it started losing power, got off the freeway and the car totally died. I let the shop know right away 2 phone calls on (April 16th) and was told they couldnt take it back in because the shop was full and they didnt have time for any projects. I let them know that I would have someone else look at it. While going through the claims process to have the transmission looked at, it was discovered that the transmission was fine, but 2 lines from the carburetor werent connected and that led to the car running lean, which led to it overheating and throwing a rod, blowing a piston etc. Insurance doesnt cover this. So I reached out to them as soon as I got the report and tried to get a resolution, and was told this...
Hello Mr. Blunt,

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?
Did I mention I referred someone else to them in that time frame between my appointments and he wasnt satisfied with his carburetor service either. Im an excellent businessman and respected in the car scene, I do GOOD BUSINESS, Paid in full for both jobs, 2k total, and what I had them work on had an issue, and theyre denying offering ANY HELP! I EVEN LEFT A 5 STAR GOOGLE REVIEW ON THE 15TH, THAT IVE SINCE REMOVED ONCE I WAS TOLD THEY WOULDNT LOOK AT THE CAR. Im truly saddened by having to even post this. I did everything in my power to have my insurance cover it under the towing issue (because tow truck was hired by my insurance company), but there wasnt anything wrong with the transmission, so the claim was denied. They called the mechanic who did the diagnostic on the engine and he confirmed the carb issue and they still arent accepting any liability. They didnt even use a new gasket in the carburetor... Terrible treatment. Shops make mistakes, honor them and treat your clients fair, this isnt fair at all.
