Alexis Busch I am a long time client of Melissa’s and HFOS. My two most recent experiences at HFOS I have had the pleasure of working with Gracie. On 12/26 I did a blowout with Gracie for my birthday dinner. She made me feel so pampered and beautiful. Last week, I needed a last minute highlight and I was excited to see Gracie available. She was able to brighten me up while adding dimension. Everything I asked for and more. My hair is so much more lively and much healthier. Not to mention, I LOVE the way she curls my hair. Thank you HFOS and Gracie for a great experience once again :)

Kramer Pena DO NOT go here for IBE hair extensions. I spent almost $800 at the salon for my hair to consistently fall out within a few days of the application. I have had extensions for over 7 years and have never had an experience like this one. I gave the stylist 3 chances to fix my hair, and each time they fell out. After my third visit that I again had to sit there and take time out of my work day so it could be “fixed” they fell out less than 48 hours later. At that point I politely requested a refund, as it was clear they did not know what they were doing. Mel the owner refused due to “policy” which I was never made aware of. Never in my life have I been spoken to as a client, like Mel spoke to me. She was incredibly rude and antagonistic. At no point did the stylist or owner apologize for the issues with my hair. Mel didn’t even reach out to discuss the issues I was having or apologize for the incredibly poor experience. I had to contact the salon directly to get her to call me. Instead, Mel told me that “they don’t offer IBE as a service” even though I texted the salon number directly to confirm they did and was scheduled with the stylist. Instead, Mel told me I was taking money out of the stylists paycheck if she refunded me. Sounds like she should rethink her business practices if you can’t refund a client for shoddy work. I would be absolutely ashamed as an owner if a client was walking around town with her extensions completely falling out. I sent photos to the stylist who previously did my extensions and she told me they were very clearly installed incorrectly. My other stylist also looked up HFOS in the IBE certification data base and no one at the salon is certified in this service. They shouldn’t be offering it. I told this to Mel and she said “no one in the area is certified”, which is also not true. I now have to pay to go to my old stylist to have this completely redone with absolutely no compensation from the salon. The only thing I was offered was to come in again for a FOURTH time to have someone else take a look. I refuse to let a stylist who is not certified in this method touch my hair again. I expect that there is damage to my extensions due to the inappropriate application. My holiday photos are ruined, because my certified stylist cannot get me in before them. I would think incredibly hard before going to this salon and giving the owner who clearly cares nothing about her customers appearance or business.

Emi Melker I cannot begin to express how much I love this salon. The women truly care about you and your beauty needs, going above and beyond to ensure you leave feeling confident and pretty. Sophia, Mel, Natasha, Mojgan, and Alex are all absolute gems. Each one is incredibly skilled in their craft and takes the time to listen to exactly what you want, while offering expert advice and suggestions. Their attention to detail is unmatched.

Kylie DiPrimo Overall, I really tried to be positive about the experience I had, but a week after my adjustment appointment, to fix how it looked after the first appointment, I am just not happy with what I got for how much I paid. I was referred to HFOS by a coworker who has gone for a while and never had any issues. I had gone back and forth about booking for about 5 months because their prices were out of my budget and I had my hair fried by a stylist 2 years prior. Since then I had been doing my hair myself focusing on gaining back healthy long hair and dying it at home, but I was up front with how bad the banding and color correction was from the very start. When I finally saved up the money to pamper myself and get it done for my birthday I was so excited. My main insecurity was the banding of different colors in my roots and there was nothing said about not being able to cover them up. Tristany was my stylist and she is very passionate and knowledgeable about curly hair which is great, but I felt like that was the main thing she focused on especially at the end. Almost like trying to distract from the roots by getting my natural curls to show. I was there for 3 hours and the studio was dark so I didnt notice the roots were so bad until I got home and immediately freaked out because she had died my hair darker than it was before so the light orange roots were more noticeable and it was a distinct line. I will attach pictures of before I went in and what it looked like after. Luckily she took my call the following day and fit me in the next week for an adjustment on my actual birthday which was great, but she insisted on using Demi color so when my roots grew out it wouldnt be a big difference, but I wasnt worried about that since I planned on getting the roots touched up to match the color on my ends. Within about 5-7 days the demi color was practically gone and you could see the line again so I went to Sally Beauty and bought permanent color to fix it myself which was under 10 dollars versus $300. (my colleague said she rarely pays more than 150-200 with her stylist and everyone at my work recommended I not go back after seeing it) The salon is cute and chic, but to be honest it was filthy. The workstations did not appear to be cleaned and when I went the first time I was given an open glass of water that was placed on the stylists workstation with hair all over it and touching the water. Hair fell in the cup at one point and it made my stomach turn. The brushes had hair all in them and looked sticky. I was a little hesitant to even write a review because after my first appointment I read all of the previous ones (which I should have done before going) and did not like how the owner, Mel, responds very snotty and rude back to customers that had bad experiences or didnt feel that the salon was the best fit for them. Ultimately I just dont want anyone to spend $300 to be disappointed like I was. I am not broke, but that is just an amount I am a little uncomfortable throwing away when I spent a total of 5hrs getting it done between the two appointments (had to call out of work) and had to fix it myself anyways.

Viviana Whalen I saw Tristany for a curly cut and it turned out AMAZING! I was in shock that my hair could even look like that!! I’m very low maintenance with my hair and Tristany made sure that I left with a hair routine that was easy, but still with incredible results. She showed me step by step how to style it, gave me recommendations for products to use, and overall just made me feel incredibly comfortable and heard. I’m typically a bit anxious at the salon (to the point where I cut my own hair for years) and Tristany just made it so wonderful for me. I couldn’t recommend a better salon or a better stylist to get a curly cut in Gainesville!!! Thank you Tristany!

Anna Etherington My twin sister & I have been seeing Chelsey for 7 years! Ive recently started doing fashion colour so I have to lift my hair. Through her knowledge & experience she is able to maintain the integrity of my hair so that is stays long. Shes always educating herself on the latest trends & newest conventions of hair care. In fact she is so talented other stylists come to her for advice. Also, I never know what I want & she always helps me decide. I love her creativity & passion! I cannot recommend her enough! I do not trust anyone else w/ my hair!!

Iris S I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this salon that I feel others should know about. I came in specifically asking for a loose wave perm, something subtle and manageable, and I even clarified my expectations multiple times with the stylist. My hair was in great condition beforehand—healthy, soft, and well-maintained—so I didn’t think achieving this look would be an issue. However, what I got was nothing close to what I asked for. The stylist didn’t seem to understand or care about my request. I ended up with a perm that left my hair feeling stringy, uneven, and completely different from what we had discussed. I asked about the products being used and whether they would suit my hair type, but I didn’t get clear answers, which made me uneasy. After the process, my hair didn’t even look professionally done—it was frizzy and far from the soft, natural waves I had envisioned. To make matters worse, I now have to spend extra time and money on repairing the damage to my hair and finding ways to style it because it’s unmanageable as it is. This experience has been so disheartening, especially since I trusted this salon with my long, healthy hair. I regret choosing this place, and I cannot recommend it to anyone who values attention to detail, communication, or achieving the look they actually asked for. What made the situation worse was the lack of professionalism in addressing my concerns. When I contacted the salon, the owner initially responded, but then completely ghosted me after that, leaving me without any resolution or follow-up. It’s frustrating and disheartening that no one took the time to make things right or even acknowledge my dissatisfaction after that one response. The dismissive attitude made it clear that they don’t value their clients or stand behind their work. Below is the picture of what i asked for, and what my hair looked like after the service.

Natalya Bull I was disappointed with the quality of service which I received at Mode Aveda. About 1.5 months ago, I scheduled an appointment with Maybelline (one of their new hair stylists) for an all-over hair color to cover the brassy highlights in my hair. I specifically asked that the color be as possible to my natural hair color (an ashy medium brown, level 6) as possible. After arriving at the appointment and sitting through a two-hour hair coloring session, Maybelline began to dry my hair to reveal a gothic brown color which was several shades darker than my natural shade! When I expressed my concern, Maybelline reassured me that the color would lighten after several washes. Maybelline never informed me that she put in permanent, rather than demi-permanent color, in my hair, and that at Mode Aveda, "all-over color" was code for "permanent hair color." She then proceeded to give me a lackluster blow-out which was a far cry from the beautiful blow-outs that I regularly received when I do my hair at other salons. Dubiously, I paid $130 plus a 20% tip and left. Two and a half weeks and approximately 7 hair washes later, my hair remained the same dark, gothic color. When I called the salon to complain, I spoke with the salon manager, who had a condescending tone and seemed annoyed with my dissatisfaction. She instructed me to schedule a hair consultation to evaluate what could be done. At the consultation, I was seen by another stylist, who informed me that because the hair color was permanent, I would either need to strip out the hair color with bleach (a 6-hour procedure that would substantially damage my hair) or highlight my hair to break up the dark color (a 4-hour procedure which also damages hair) . She then asked me when I would like to schedule another appointment with Maybelline, to allow her to "fix" her mistake. When I told her that I did not want Maybelline, a junior hair stylist, to redo my hair again, she appeared taken aback that I would not give her a "second chance." I then requested and scheduled an appointment with John, a senior hair colorist. At my appointment, John seemed rushed and annoyed that he had to redo my hair and told me that I didnt need to bleach out or highlight my hair, but would be fine with a light bleach shampoo wash followed by a new hair color. I agreed and after two hours sitting in the chair, looked up to see reddish/copper hair at the top of my head. When I voiced my disappointment, John told me that my hair would always "draw." red and that he could try making the hair darker, but that it could look gothic brown as a result. Defeated, I agreed to keep the hair with the red roots and tipped John $40, and bought a $12 bottle of shampoo which I didnt need ( they wouldnt let me pay a tip with a credit card without buying something). Two weeks and $200+ later, I still have red hair at the top of my head. This is the first and last time I will be coming to Mode Aveda. I am very disappointed with the level of overall service at the salon, the lack of courteousness of the staff, the wasted money, and the lost time. I would not recommend this establishment. Left to right: First two photos-my natural hair color; remaining photos-the gothic brown color in which my hair was dyed with the red roots of after the second appointment where the hairstylist attempted to fix the first stylist’s color application.

Arthur Burton I had a WONDERFUL experience here with Wade. I went in with a vague sense of what color I wanted to dye my hair- Wade and I talked it through. We got my hair EXACTLY the color i wanted- but because I have thin hair... the "effect" of it was not what i wanted. So mid process- we had to begin again and Wade said he had an idea. He said he thought he had an idea what I was going for.....and it came out PERFECT. What I realized is that he had really listened as I went all over the place describing what I wanted and he masterfully got me there. On a scale of 1 to 10- my experience was a 20. Thanks Mode Aveda and thank you Wade.

Robbin Odowski Jess is so nice and easy to talk to. I have curly hair and Jess always knows how to cut it so that it lays and curls beautifully. After many disappointing hair cuts at other salons, I found Jess about 4-5 years ago and I’m never disappointed. Previously I always colored my own hair but started having it professionally done by Jess. I love the color so much more than what I was using. If you have curly hair, Jess is your girl!!

Kathy Hargrett For Jessica: I dont know what to do about the disappointment I feel in my style you cut into my hair last week. From the beginning, there wasnt much, conversation about what I wanted. I showed you the inspiration picture And you told me you told me I had to get my hair fixed 1st from having cut it myself. I Didnt quite understand that because you did cut it only shorter than what it was Still with disconnected Layers And uneven In places. Even the shampoo was really bad. You squirted me in the face once and then splashed me twice.. The water ran cold On a cold day which was pretty uncomfortable. Not the whole time, but for a little while. Pretty weird. I have a pretty big thick chunk of hair on the right side of my head at a weird angle. That is not repeated on the other side. You didnt really do any length checking either from side to side.so it’s uneven in front. Dont know about the back. guess Im lucky I still have some hair. Im not a vain person, but my appearance is something I kinda value. It was pretty clear I thought that I wasnt jazzed about how I looked when I left.. I told you my daughter gave it a thumbs up but ??? ????? When I was checking out you asked me out loud if I wanted to put a tip on top of the $45 dollars... I have never been asked out loud for a tip for a service. Then you didnt even attempt to rebook me for that repair style haircut I needed. What a disappointment. was there a time constraint? Did you just not feel well? Did you just dislike me? It doesnt matter. I wont trust anyone. I’m sorry to blast you but I’ve had it with bad services.

Haley Gallaher The best experience I have ever had at a salon!!! The very first thing I was asked when I walked in was if I wanted a drink & they continued that same hospitality throughout my entire appointment. I had Kalie as a stylist and she is not only friendly and personable, but also basically a magician behind the salon chair. She is amazing. I will definitely continue to go back and recommend!

Anne Nicole I had a great haircut with Joann. She told me her previous experience was working in New York for 30 years and it shows in her skill. I walked in and showed her 3 photos of Park Jihyo from TWICE and she gave me exactly that hair cut. She even asked my specific preferences with the bob style and previewed changes to give me an idea of the look. She was great to talk to and is a great listener. She did a wet cut, no shampoo, and a quick blowout. About 45 minutes. I will be back for my trims and styling. Go treat yourself here!

Tina Ding I will never trust any barbers anymore. I will never cut my hair in two years. When customers tell you, they don’t want it too short. Just be careful with the length. I grew my hair for 3 to 4 years. Before I cut my hair, the length is at my hips area. I don’t want to cut it short until the top of my chest. That’s too much for me to take. I understand that you are very professional. I appreciate your work. But it is heartbreaking for me because I trust you and give you the chance to cut my hair. It will grow back. But how long I need to wait for ? Do you understand the pain that I am going through whenever I saw it that short ? Ps: young girls watch out. They don’t care about how you feel. During the hair cut, they keep telling me, “trust me”, the whole period time. If you want to charge more for longer hair I will pay for that. I will understand that is more work for you. Not to convince the customer to trust you and keep cut it short. It makes me think that you want to cut it short so your work will be easier. When I told her, this is too short and hard for me to take. All they said was I am sorry. I ended up pay $65 for cut hair and the blow dry style I don’t want ( I just want to dry my hair. That’s it), I don’t want any style to it. Plus: $10 tips for her. And plus I cried when I get back to my car. Today was supposed to be a special day for me. A LUCKY DAY. But it ended up being a bad start. I won’t be happy for a long time. The damage is done . Nothing I can do about it. So please take a reconsideration. Heads up! When you are nice, they will actually take advantage of you.

Aubrey Rushe Deborah did an amazing job for my January wedding. In the months leading up to it, she gave me a haircut that would support the hairstyle (and improved the appearance of my normal day-to-day hair, to boot) and invited me to come in for multiple trial sessions to make sure she got everything perfect. I have naturally curly hair, and wanted a stylist who was familiar with curls and wouldnt straighten my hair then re-curl it into large, unnatural "chunks" (which has happened with other stylists in the past). I was drawn to Deborah due to her portfolio of curly hair styles that looked natural, and Im really satisfied with my choice.

Maritza Guzman Choosing Deborah as a hair stylist for my wedding was a the best decision I made. She came highly recommended and I needed an expert for my thin and little hair. Her talent and skills exceeded my expectations. Magically, she made my hair look radiant, silky, shiny, and most importantly my head was full of hair and not blank spots visible! I was so appreciative since after my surgery I lost much of my hair. I needed a miracle without spending a fortune nor putting inserts. Since over a week before my wedding she voluntarily treated my hair with products that contributed my hair to look more abundant and healthier; she did this for free. She is generous and is customer oriented, so clients satisfaction is her priority. But her talent & skills go beyond all I have stated. Since the moment we met she showed compassion, care, great listening skills, and most importantly patience! I admit I am very hard to please when it comes to my hair. She genuinely embraced my concerns and made it happened! My wish came true, I looked radiant and as an older bride I value her work. Furthermore, I wanted her to come do my hair instead of me going to her. That was important to me because I did not want the hassle of going back and forth on my wedding day and plus it was in the morning. Day of wedding arrived and I was surprised. She came fully equipped, as if she moved her business to me. I felt like a queen and so pampered! She even helped me calm down by doing relaxation techniques. It was an amazing experience! I highly recommend Deborah at Creek-side Clippers without any reservations. Maritza Williams!

She also is a very kind and fun person to talk to. The prices are absolutely killer for the quality you get. There is no one else I trust more with my hair. Please give her a chance!

Olive Vaughn tina at total image cuts the best hair in town, period, full stop. of all the people i have had cut my hair, tina is the most thoughtful and skillful. she understands the needs of your hair intuitively from years of experience and cuts it thinking of how it will look a week from now, a month from now, and so on, in addition to how it looks as you leave the salon. she simply is an expert, the only expert stylist i have ever met, frankly, and if she ever stops cutting hair i will just let mine grow until it touches the ground and the friction wears it down. all my friends see her. shes simply magic. and affordable, which is outrageous given the quality of the cut. i cannot recommend her enough!

On top of that I was only charged 30$ for a shampoo, trim, and style! Total Image is now my go to salon and I highly recommend you give them a visit. You will not be disappointed.

Abby Austin I just want to say, I LOVE TINA! She is my favorite hair dresser in all of Gainesville. She knows what she is doing. I’ve been having her do my hair ever since I moved up to Gainesville 10 years ago. And yes I have tried many other places, for one reason or another. Such as availability, location of where I’m living at the time, or the hype of a new fancy place. Well I always end up coming back to Tina at TOTAL IMAGE. This isn’t bash any other places I’ve gone. There’ve done a fine job for the most part.. but I haven’t felt myself the last year while I’ve been growing out my hair from my last cut (I know, prob too long to wait for a trim) but I finally got back in to see Tina today and I am SO HAPPY. Point is, anyone looking for a hairdresser I recommend Tina at Total Image ☺️ I finally feel pretty today after looking blah for so long.

Jennifer Brinkley Tina did FABULOUS job cutting and highlighting/lowlighting my hair!! I have longer hair with layers and it is sooo hard to find someone that can cut it the way I like it but she NAILED IT!! I would personally recommend her with no hesitation whatsoever!!

Jennifer Benchic Great! She cut my hair exactly how I wanted and my sons as well. We both have difficult hair that can easily show blunt cuts but this was not the case here I can’t remember her name but she was at the first chair on the right when you walk in! She knows what she’s doing!

Yin Xie Best haircut + color + style I’ve ever gotten. I am 100% satisfied. LeeAnn was so professional and catered to my tastes. She was super nice and lovely to chat with. Would definitely come again!

L Lew I will give this a negative one star..I went to get my eyebrows done yesterday because my preferred place next door was closed. The facial wax person is not capable at all. She kept asking me what I wanted to be done and how much should she cut. The wax was too cold and she even got some in my HAIR! Ill let the pic speak for themselves. The stylist were ABSOLUTELY rude to my friend who came in there with me. She kept calling "maam" over and over. I could hear her while I was in the back. The stylist NEVER responded to her. My friend had to go to the bathroom. The place was nasty and unkept. My friend noticed the swelling of my eyelid and hour later. ( as you can see in the picks) bottom line: DONT GO HERE. I will be going there tomorrow for my refund and to so them the damage that has been done to my face!

Shawn Gueimunde Yesterday, I received the worst haircut Ive ever had. I asked the stylist to shave the side and back of my head using a one guard. I then asked her to cut the hair on top of my head with scissors using her fingers as a guard. This means the thickness of her fingers would be my hair length. For some reason, she shaved the hair just above my forehead. (See attached picture.) Now my forehead can be used as a movie screen, and I look like a monk fresh from the monastery. Save your money. Use it to drive to a more reliable hair stylist.

Kim Swift I walked in with my 12 year old son and asked if I needed to make an appointment, or if they could cut my son’s hair as a walk-in. The hair cutter there was finishing up with a gentleman, looked at my son, told us we could sit and she would take my son next. We wait about 15 minutes, she finished with her customer and then she told me that she could not cut my son’s kind of hair. I’m not sure why we needed to wait 15 minutes to be told that.
