RHONDA KEENAN Ill start by saying, the staff is very nice. They dealt with this anxious, tired mother very well. They seem to be a bit disorganized though. Lack of communication maybe? It took alot longer than it should have for my sons broken arm to be fixed. They did manage his pain as best as they could. But had it been fixed sooner, he wouldnt have required so much pain meds. And Im sure the bill we will recieve would have been cheaper too. We were there for 10 1/2 hours, overnight. 8 1/2 hrs til his arm was finally set back in place. Thats not including the 5 hrs we sat at the er in Starke before being transferred here. So 14 hrs total before his arm was set and put in a cast. Thats unacceptable. Staying overnight is awful. The fold up chairs are very uncomfortable. Being a peds unit youd think they would have somewhere for the parents to sleep (like those recliners in labor and delivery) I slept on the floor with my head on the chair. My husband didnt sleep. The nurses and Drs attitudes did help make it more bearable though. Again, they were excellent in that regard. The 2nd Ortho Dr that came, in was the one who had his stuff together. He got everything rolling and done very quickly.

Erica Deese I brought my 5 month old baby in for vomiting, diarrhea, fever as recommended by our pediatrician. The receptionists were kind and prompt. We were triaged within 5 minutes. The triage nurse was very caring and let me know that if I had any concerns while in the lobby that I can bring back to be triaged again immediately. I was in a room within 20-30 minutes and saw a nurse (Darby), a 4th year med student, and the attending doctor (Dr. Patel) almost immediately. All were wonderful! All were patient with my fussy baby and attentive. They all checked on us very frequently and truly acted like they cared. We were only there about 2.5 hours and most of the waiting was monitoring my baby to see how she responded to the medications. I have no complaints and I am so happy that we have a trusted pediatric ER so close by!

Joseph Walker From triage, to x ray, to discharge it was a pleasant and expedited experience. They had us x rayed within an hour and out the door and splinted in under 1.5 hrs. Dr. Holland was polite and courteous and the entire staff was friendly with an excellent bedside manner. I can’t say enough positive things about the staff who was working on Christmas Day 2024. Thank you for making what seemed like a frustrating holiday a positive experience!!

Cory Phillips Took a minute to get in as front desk didn’t really care we had a protocol letter. But the ER nurse and doc were very frustrated they didn’t get us back immediately. The doc and nurses were very helpful and friendly.

Kayla Robinson I can say the treatment of my daughter at this hospital was outstanding. She has special needs, and the other hospital we went to refused to try to put an iv in her until they sedated her first. Here, they had a plan that was successful fairly quickly. No sedation was needed or even considered. I appreciate that and all the staff that helped her. Chelsey was fantastic!

Brandi B Dr. Monsour and Dr. Yale are the best! Ive been to see them with lots of questions and issues, and they take the time to explain their diagnoses and courses of treatment thoroughly. They have accommodated me when I unexpectedly ran late, staying way past quitting time. Ive been very impressed by and happy with the whole UF Health system!

Kayla Hull The worst healthcare facilities I’ve ever had the displeasure of working with. Psychiatry receptionists telling me I’ll just have to go to the ER and go inpatient to get my medication refilled. Wait times over 25 minutes for them to just hang up when you finally get through. Avoid at all costs.

Patrick Weir These people are nasty and the most unhelpful group I’ve ever worked with. Every person I talk to speaks to me like they’re doing a favor to me to check on the status of something. Government at work at it’s finest!

LM PS It just ask depends. Sometimes service is great. Other times it is awful. What is the worst is when VA employees call patients from their personal cell phone. Apparently VA had no issues when VA staff take patient info out of the office for personal reasons.

Rock Everwood Ive been going here off and on since about 1990 it used to be dirty and have really really horrible employees all thats changed in the last 3 years they did a lot of remodeling the place is clean now and I love my team the latest Ive been seen is on time. A lot of the complaints I really dont understand I mean I got a $128,000 procedure and I paid out a pocket like 120 bucks Ill put up with small inconveniences LOL.

Jonathan Hodge The providers are incompetent, impressively slow, and lack ethics. The veteran service officers send you away, say, “forget you, quit bothering me and figure it out yourself.” It’s extremely demeaning and hateful, and if you don’t like helping veterans, leave so somebody else can take your job that will. Five years after leaving Gainesville and I’m still policing up the damage they have done. Drive to another VA, please!

Boston Leemyers I called to let them know a life saving medication that they prescribed me could not be filled by any pharmacy. They refused to send a note to the doctor so they were aware to stop prescribing this medication unless you are intentionally setting patients up for failure. The nurse said it was my problem not hers & hung up the phone on me mid sentence. Do not waste your time with a facility that only wants your money and has no desire to help you. s

Jay Brown So I found out my friend was here so I tried calling the hospital to check on him to see how he was doing and what was going on. But when I spoken to an older lady on the phone she said I can’t tell any information on any patients that’s here unless I’m on the emergency contact lists. So then finally after two days luckily his mom got him out and found I was on the lists. They just didn’t want to do there job. They were extremely unprofessional, lazy, dishonest people. Don’t ever come and you got to fight tooth and nail just to find out information

Gio De Los Reyes Hello world! There is no honesty. No integrity in this facility. I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia in 2017. The honest truth is that my parents found my LSD and brought me to this psychiatric ward, they lied about my condition saying things like I was agitated or I talked to myself, and this was far from the truth. I was enjoying my psychedelic experiences. I am one of those fortunate few, I am from the Philippines and had I not moved to the united states, I might have not ever experienced true friends and the wonders that LSD can do. Bottom line is antipsychotics mediate the effects of LSD and other psychedelics. If you enjoy your privacy and autonomy I recommend staying as far away from this place as possible. Merry Christmas!

Devin C My friend was recently admitted to this place and informed me I tried to call the hospital to get updates. I was transferred over to front desk and guess what?? The front desk lady told me that she couldnt provide any info on patient and hung up! Nothing else just flat out click off the phone. Just to find out over the next 2 days from my friend after they got out they tried to keep him longer. Look up Baker Act!! This place has a low rating for a reason please think twice about this place.

hector pabon Tried to call my friend back who called from this facility specifically. Some bitter front desk woman hung up on me the first time. Told me they had no information on the patient. The third time I’m obviously annoyed I think she muttered her name was diana, the front desk woman. she has some rude attitude persisting they have no information when the patient literally called me from their facility. 0 inquiry to who I was or why I was calling terrible customer service I can see AI taking her job

Qydru Harper-Brunson Dr.Hood, Nurse Aira, Nurse Laurel in Shands Hospital ER are very kind and compassionate. I was feeling very left out when it came to my own care but they made sure to inform me on everything. Doctor Hood was my admitting doctor and he is very kind and thorough. Nurse Aira was my admitting nurse and she extremely thoughtful, kind, and fast sometimes too fast and that is not to say in a negative way but it can be overwhelming but other than that shes a great nurse. Nurse Laurel is so kind and very sweet, She made sure to feed me and communicated well with the doctors about me being frustrated due to not being informed. Other than that all the other staff and medical professionals seemed great but I didnt have enough interaction with them to actually tell.

Joe Epic Came here with a patient from my facility. We were put in the hallway and forgotten about. Nurse did not do rounds at all. Made no attempt to explain what was going on. Waited over 20 hours for a room. I watched as a patient on the otherside of the hall got up multiple times by himself because no one would help him. Still connected to him pulse ox, BP cuff and tele. He would keep walking till it would get ripped off. Place is a mess.

LeeAnna Sloan The hospital itself is good but the ER is the worst Ive ever been in. Brought my cousin for chest pain and here we still sit. 9 hrs later and still havent even been called to registration. I counted 53 ppl in the waiting room. The girl who takes vitals said There are people waiting to be discharged. When theyre discharged then they will start bringing people back.Went back earlier for a chest xray and there was people laying in the hallway.. I watched a woman have a seizure sitting right here in the waiting room AFTER they already discharged her.. Its ridiculous. They need a big overhaul in this ER before somebody dies in here waiting to be seen! Weve already wasted 9 hours sitting in here, so we dont wanna leave. But then again..... Talking to other patients in here ...one lady has been sitting here since 3am this morning, its now 636 pm . Its mind-boggling really!!! I guess they think that if youre sick enough youll sit here and wait, And they really dont give a crap!

Heidi Rucker I do not recommend using Shands Hospital ER - only their in patient services. My son waited in ER for over 12 hours after blood tests revealed very high WBC and other CMP markers for infection. My son has a history of recurrent brain lesions caused by unknown cause and a mitochondrial disorder,, all documented in his Shands electronic medical charts for the past 10 years. We plan to go to a HCA ER for our next ER visit.

Anthony Stacey Absolutely ridiculous. Went there with my boyfriend for a whole body rash he developed overnight, was told after waiting for 3 and a half hours that the hospital was at full capacity and wouldn’t be seeing patients unless they were in urgent need of medical care. I completely understand that those things happen; however, it is absolutely unprofessional that we should be told after waiting more than three hours that the hospital was at full capacity. We ended up going to Avecina healthcare and he was seen almost immediately and they let him sign in online. For being one of the “top ranked hospitals” UF has very little to show for it.
