Fred Marshall I would like a genuine answer as to why is it so difficult to see your primary care doctor? My wife called the third week in August to make an appointment. Was told November 18th. Almost 3 months. She asked to be placed on a cancellation list and the appointment has now been moved to November 13th. She called primary care with complaints and requesting to be seen again and was advised she would have to go to the emergency room. Is this the most effective way to handle patients who have a non-emergent issue? I understand emergent is at the discretion of the provider but give me a break, this is clearly a cop out. Tried video visits twice. Was charged both times but never saw a provider. Was willing to go to the walk-in clinic but that was closed. What is a patient supposed to do? Wait 3 months to be seen? From reading these reviews, it seems like Im not the only one with this complaint. People dont want to sit in the ER all day and pay an exorbitant copay for a concern that is clearly not emergent. She has submitted a concern to the website that has been mentioned in previous responses from Guthrie. We would like actual person to be helpful with a solution, if thats possible.

Calvin Gordon The doctors are friendly, professional, and thorough. The center is a beautiful new building with friendly and caring staff. I recommend this medical clinic.

Brookie Dont even bother. Place is a joke. Theyll be your last hope and resort for getting your 4 yr old child the help and screenings they need for school. And theyll leave you high and dry. Turning you away. Even if youre a loyal patient for over a decade but family is no longer considered patients there bc we moved 35 mins away and the kids go to their school based health as needed. Talk about huge advocates for literacy huh?

William Fraser Do not waste your time and money here. I came to this office about a dozen times over the course of a year because I was having a specific health issue. I was told repeatedly that it was just anxiety. It wasn’t anxiety, and I knew it wasn’t anxiety. I decided to instead go to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse, where they gave me a real diagnosis and proper treatment during my first appointment. My problems cleared up pretty quickly after that. Guthrie is a joke.

Indiana Mendoza I would like to give 0 star but you can’t! This is the worst service I’ve had, I’ve lived in Cortland for 2 years and what a shame that this is the only hospital. Right now sitting I’ve been waiting for 4 and a half hours. The reception team, nurses and doctors are brutally inhuman. You can come with pain, nausea, almost when you faint and they don’t care. With or without insurance if you want to die just come here. THE WORSE!!!!!

Michelle Sason This has been one of the most pleasant and supportive medical experiences I have had in a long time. Everyone was kind, professional, and communicative, which was especially important to me as I navigated a sudden heart issue. I even called the next day with questions about my prescribed medication and I talked with a PA who was wonderful and clear while also making sure that the Doctor who prescribed me the med contacted me as soon as possible to follow up. I am extremely grateful.

Dragonking4L Was friendly enough. But took hours to do blood work. And the Ive they put in my arm is turning my arm purple slowly. It says on there wall someone will be in every 60 minute or less. Yet havent seen a doctor or nurse sence they took my blood away. When I asked about removing my iv I was told not that I had to wait till they want to take it out. Smh.

Sam Poat The emergency room Doctor (Dr. Page)and nurses were fantastic. I came in the middle of the night and they were highly professional and empathetic. I’m from out of state so I appreciated the kindness all the more. They took all my concerns seriously and took appropriate treatment.

XAvion Irons This hospital is probably the least efficient hospital I’ve ever had the misfortune of needing to attend. I’ve visited several times on my own but today was what truly upset me when I visited with my fiance. She is pregnant and we came here after her normal care provider suggested she gets checked out at the local ER (we go to school at SUNY Cortland, so unless we travel to Syracuse or Ithaca, this hospital is our only option. What concerned me the most wasn’t the lack of urgency or poor organization of rooming (constantly moving us around the hospital), it was the fact that no one had written down any information that my fiance gave them. She was forced to remind care providers several times that she was pregnant and had to ask several questions surrounding a medicine they were going to give her before they realized her normal prescriptions conflict with said medicine. It’s clear that the priority here is not the safety of patients, it is to get you in and out as soon as possible. Which, even with that, you’re looking at a 4-8 hour visit because the staff is more concerned with socializing than the health of their patients. I can say with certainty that I will not be returning and if I ever need care in this area, I’ll be making the drive to Crouse Hospital in Syracuse.

Franco Valentino Came here for a buddy of mine that had a problem, went to the ER. Front desk lady and nurses were so kind , but I personally feel like nobody knew what they were doing. We were left in the room for like 2 hours with no answer and nobody checking in. I understand it was late and possibly busy but still it shouldn’t take this long. Honestly next time I would save my time and money and just walk off whatever injury it may be then come here.

Eric Godiers After seeing the ER packed inn the afternoon of my visit, I returned at approx.10 PM that evening. The ER was still exceptionally busy and I was seen after a lengthy wait. After being triaged I was placed in a chair. After another, shorter wait I was seen by a doctor, After explaining the reason for my visit, the doctor suggested a treatment to which I agreed to. After the treatment, I waited for a period of time to see if my situation woukd improve. It did not, so feeling that the amount of people in the ER and wait times would be difficult for me continue to wait so I left.

Cory Sara Keeney I was at Guthrie for 3 days between labor and delivery and maternity. I have zero complaints on how I was treated by the nurses. I always have been self conscious but I didn’t feel weird or uncomfortable while there in very vulnerable conditions as one is during and after giving birth. I was treated with kindness and respect the whole time and I felt the nurses were caring and knowledgeable and answered any questions I had. all my nurses were fantastic but there were a few that really stood out like Marietta, Bri, Wendi, Abby and Kerrigan (the student from Boces). The nurse supervisor took the time to ask us about our stay and ensure we had no complaints. I can’t even complain about the hospital food. If I were to ever give birth again, I would be comfortable going back to Guthrie. Please keep hiring wonderful nurses, and give them a huge pat on the back. It’s not often I write good reviews, but they deserve the praise.

Cathy Mullarney This was my first visit to Guthrie Cortland, and staff were very helpful in guiding me to the part of the facility I needed. Once I reached my floor, several well placed signs made it easy to find my doctors office.

Isabel Torres Was a patient here for around 10 years, decided to stay after Dr. Ahmad left (bless him) This place has hit rock bottom. I was constantly told to lose weight at each of my appointments, but when I tried to tell them I was working on it and seeing no results and wanted to try medication, they refused saying I didn’t try hard enough and told me my insurance wouldn’t cover it anyway. Then they referred me to a diet clinic that doesn’t even take my insurance! My psych provider then sent them a certified letter regarding his concerns over my high blood pressure, and they never spoke to him or even called to let me know that they were referring me to yet another diet clinic. You know, instead of setting up an appointment or getting me a prescription for high blood pressure medication?? These people were obsessed with my weight but when it came to any actual health concerns they were radio silent. They didn’t even respect my other provider enough to grace him with a response. That’s not even mentioning the fact that the nurses here are often extremely rude. It’s like they’re actively hostile to their patients for some reason. Anyone still going here needs to get out ASAP, anyone looking to change practices to here needs to run far away. You are literally not going to receive the care you need here, go somewhere else. I finally did and I never knew how easy it could be to meet my health goals when I could find a provider that actually cared about my wellbeing.

FLEDGE 444 My experience here has been completely awful across the board. Im in the process now of finding a new health care provider because having to jump through hoops to get my prescriptions filled has become ridiculous. Theres a list of other issues Ive had there but I will spare you the details. One of the nurse practitioners there is very inappropriate and has zero manners. "Horrible" is the only word that comes to mind with this place.

Mikayla WORST is doctors office I have ever been to. My son‘s pediatrician recently moved to this office. This was my first and only experience at the office. My sons appointment was at 8:30. He only had to get one shot. I was the first and only person there. After 40 minutes of waiting in the waiting room, I asked the front desk what was taking so long. They told me they were confused as to why I was waiting so long as well and went to look for a nurse, couldn’t find anyone. Finally, after waiting over an hour, the nurse called us back and when I made a comment about being the only one there and having to wait over an hour first thing in the morning, she never once apologized for my wait time and told me she was the only one there (as in any drs or nurses). My son’s next appointment isn’t for another 10 months and weekly I get automatic calls saying the appointment has been changed or canceled. I can NEVER get anyone on the phone. Not happy at all with this office.

Barbara Cahill I was at patient for years at the Cortland, NY office of Family Health Network. My health care provider was Nikkie S. Strauf N.P. In mid-November I started to experience some major health issues and I repeatedly attempted to get a “sick appointment” with Nikkie. After I was unable to get an appointment to see her I sent her several messages through my patient portal. The only response I got was from a nurse telling me I needed to schedule an appointment with Nikkie. I responded that I was unable to get an appointment and would like to talk to NIkkie personally. I never received a message back via the patient portal. Due to the fact that I was unable to get in contact with my primary healthcare provider I had to go to the Emergency Department looking for help. From late November to mid-December I had to go to the ER 3 separate times for help. One of the ER physicians contacted FHN and by phone requested an appointment for me, which they also ignored. Two more Emergency Department requests for me to see my primary fell on deaf ears. As of today, I still have not seen or been contacted by this office. This level of indifference displayed by a medical provider for a patient is absolutely disgusting as well as dangerous. I am sharing my story of medical abuse and neglect to hopefully prevent this from happening to anyone else. This is truly repulsive to see someone who chose to care for others abandon a patient when they need care the most.

Michelle82603 Where do I even begin? First and foremost you have to at least put one star, but this place is in the negatives. I came here back in Dec 2023 with some medical issues. I was seen by Dr. Lukawski. I was given a urine test before seeing him. He walks in the room saying I have a bladder infection. Great, we know what it is. I was a little caught off guard as I was having zero symptoms of any type of UTI except for my kidneys hurting a little. So, naturally I wanted to have a conversation about it. As I start asking questions, I stated to him that my kidneys hurt. His reply? "No they dont, you dont even know where your kidneys are." Um, ok. Any way, he said "You can take this medicine or not." So I say ok Ill take it. He just gets up and walks out of the room. Said NOTHING. So, Im sitting there for several minutes wondering are we done with the appointment? So I peek my head out the door and look around. He is at the end of the hall at the counter talking to what Im assuming is a nurse. I ask if we are done. They both come down to the door to the room I was in. He proceeds to tell me they cannot let me leave. (Because I mentioned I passed out a week prior.) They are both physically standing in the doorway not letting me leave. Obviously I let them know they cannot physically keep me there. And unless they were willing to drive me and my car home, I am leaving. By this time I am absolutely mortified at this "doctors" behavior and they way he talked to me I am in full blown tears. He even told me they wont be doing any bloodwork that was ordered as there is no time for it. It was the end of the day. Anyway, luckily as Im bawling my eyes out walking down the hallway to leave, a friend of mine who works there asked what was wrong. I let her know and she pulled me to a room and ordered the bloodwork done. Fast forward to some days later. I am taking this medication he prescribed. I am having some crazy allergic reaction to it. I call in to speak to a nurse. I explained in detail what was going on. My throat is swelling up, heart rate going berserk, within 2 hours of taking EVERY dose, crazy things are happening, a whole mess of crazy symptoms. I tell this nurse (Julie or Julia) that I am having a serious allergic reaction and that when I take Benadryl it helps the throat swelling but not all of the other symptoms. She says to me, "Oh, thats not an allergic reaction, you have high blood pressure (never in my life have I ever), or it could be hormonal." I also told her my kidneys still hurt and I was told to sit in my car with the heated seats on. I thanked her for her time and got off the phone. WEEKS later I get a "follow up" phone call from them checking to see how I am doing. What the hell kind of place is this??
