I went to Island Retreat on 61. Pretty chill place. Music was good. I asked how much and one lady said $18. Got into see Savanna with no wait ( 3:00 Monday). I biked there so was a little hot and sweaty, not drenched. I said “ sorry I’m a little sweaty, maybe you want to do a shampoo first?” She said “ so what are we doing with your hair today!” Completely ignoring my concern. I guess it didn’t bother her. She wasn’t very talkative which I’m usually ok with, but new to the island I could have used a LITTLE more chitchat. She seemed a little subdued. When I asked her how her day was going she said “ can’t complain “. I told her keep it long on top and shorter on the sides and back. I said sometimes I do a #2, but longer and blended is good too. I like that she did the fade with the special scissor and not just clipping the whole thing. She was done in like 10 minutes. Kind of unusual that she didn’t touch the top AT ALL! I said “ looks good, but can you just trim up the dead ends on top?” She did trim it nice, not too much. Check out was $20, and I didn’t ask about the $18. Tip $5, should have been like 3, but I work service industry. In and out no frills and reasonable prices. Oh and her booth was decorated nice!

Linda Hazen Ive been here several times for a haircut. Mandy have me an emergency repair cut in December. She did a great job. I was there again last week for a trim and was also pleased. Great location, clean shop and the wait was reasonable. They do not take appointments, only walk-ins. That works for me.

The reason for the low rating is the unprofessional behavior of Katelyn, who I presume is the owner, or manager. I walked in, asked about availability, and she asked me to sign in. At that point, I noticed the door didn’t close, so I went over to close it and slid on the mat, falling on the ground and out the door. She asked if I was ok, and said that had never happened before and quickly resumed tending to her client’s hair. Thankfully, a concerned patron tended to me. After my cut, I turned to Katelyn and asked if there was any paperwork to fill out, in case I have issues in the next couple of days after my fall. Her response was, I’ve had that mat for 12 years. Well, there’s ALWAYS a first time. Against my better judgement to file an incident/ injury report, I decided to leave because it was evident she was not taking ownership, despite witnessing the event.
Say what you must, the mat slid, and I fell. The other client saw it and I lived it - no need to see a video. Bottom line, I’m not trying to get anything from you, merely to point out your unprofessional behavior and poor response to someone getting hurt in your salon.
