Don Davidson Fort Davis National Historical Site in Fort Davis, Texas, preserves the history of a 19th century U.S. Cavalry fort. Some buildings have been reconstructed and furnished, including an enlisted barracks, the Commanding Officers residence, a hospital, and the commissary. Original buildings are little more than foundations, but provide a feel for the forts dimensions. They also have a 14-minute film discussing the forts history, as well as many informative displays. The staff is very knowledgeable.

Hannalore Mueller The visit to this location was very educational and fascinating. It’s definitely a “walking required” experience, so I recommend being prepared for the walk and heat if you go in the summer. The museum is quaint but thorough, and the rebuilds are great.

Randy Estrada This place is so awesome with plenty of furnishings from back when the fort was actually inhabited by soldiers in the late 1860s with plenty of information about what life was like in those times from rationing food to medical treatment. It looks like theyre actively trying to restore many of the buildings while still retaining their original weathering in some parts to show the state that the buildings were in prior to restoration. Beautiful little piece of history to enjoy.

Kelly Davis Very interesting!! They have games for the kids, lots of interesting artifacts that are all Set up in buildings. There’s a map that tells you where to go and sometimes they have demonstrations such as a lady was baking cookies in the kitchen and they also had “soldiers” firing off guns. If you have a child, there’s an opportunity for them to do a scavenger hunt to earn a ranger badge! Awesome time!

Sherri Priest Interesting. Lots of history and a nature trail that will take up into the mountains with lots of info on plants and desert. Only a little over 1 mile loop but was two miles from the parking lot. America the beautiful pass will get you in free. Worth the visit but a pretty good walk to see all the signs.

Abhilasha A Rathi Amazing place for hiking. My 2 year old toddler enjoyed walking through mini obstacles and the view is breathtaking. We luckily got to see the sunset, which was beautiful. Worth visiting. If its not windy, fun place to picnic.

Tim Flagg Had a very nice visit. Staff was friendly and guided me to the perfect hiking trail for my abilities. They have a great bird blind. The Davis mountains are beautiful, especially against the brilliant blue sky.

David & Sheri Boudreau We stayed at the Davis Mountains State Park in an RV. The park is beautiful, has many wild animals, is well kept and has both full hookups and primitive sites with lots in between, including an amazing view from a mountain top viewpoint in the park. We even saw a deer chilly out on the way up to the mountain top! They have many different kinds of places to see and do things. There are some special picnic areas, clean restrooms, pet friendly and people friendly!

Ann Birkenmeyer We loved this park! The views were amazing! The hosts were very busy keeping the park so clean. We took a tour up at the McDonald Observatory; very cool! The camping sites were very nice and spacious.

David Trout Must See !! This Fort has been reconstructed. Their still working to restore, all the structures. You can go in them and see what life on the Frontier looked like in the 1800s !! Also, there is a road that you can view the entire complex from atop the mountains behind it. Probably, need at least a couple of hours to fully see the whole complex

Cindy Starcher The Fort Davis Mountain fort is a serene place for historical memories and learning. Nicely decorated and furnished fort buildings provide the visitor with a detailed view of life at the Fort. Nicely kept paths lead you through the visitor areas to explore areas of 200 years ago. Nestled in the little town of Fort Davis, which is also full of history. The Limpia Hotel, bookstore and many other shops are awaiting your view. Dont forget to stop by the Prude Ranch and McDonalds Observatory. Catching a star party can be stunning on a clear warm Texas night!

Nadja We decided to spend a night in Fort Davis, mainly to attend the Star party at the McDonald’s observatory. During the day we decided to check out Fort Davis National Historic Site . A lot on interesting historical information about the “Wild West’, but also really enjoyed exploring the area, and hiking around the hills and beautiful rock formations. Cool place to visit while in town!

Jody Banks This was an unexpected find! We were on a road trip through West Texas and stayed in Ft. Davis en route to Big Bend. We decided to go see the Fort, since we were near by. This place was amazing! So much history, and so much work has been done to restore the fort to what it was. Plus I saw my first live tarantula in the wild.

Hayfarmer Fort Davis is a really cool little old town in the Davis mountains. So this park here is a beautiful place to take a walk, jog or run. It has a couple ball diamonds and a soccer field. It also has some things for younger kids to climb on. And it has some nice restrooms.

Nadja We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. It is about a 70 years old building, with a very interesting wood facade. It has been remodeled, but it is still full of history and “character” . That is what it makes staying there a unique experience. Every new discovery is a lot of fun. Even the bullet holes on the glass front window makes u feel even more of a part of the Wild West. There is a keypad at the hotel door for self check in. No staff / office. When you get in, there is an open lounge/social area, with a pool table, ping pong table, and a Foosball table. Looks like it used to be a restaurant downstairs. The rooms are on the second floor and the only way to go up is through stairs. We stayed in room 1. It was clean and very spacious. Some modern amenities like an air conditioning unit, a microwave, a small fridge a blow dryer and a TV. I enjoyed walking on the original wood squeaky floors. The bed was very big and comfortable. The location is very central. Parking is free and easy on the street in front of the hotel.

rick rodriguez went there with a group of friends. We sat in different table. An employee came by and said shed be right . After several minutes of noticing her attend to other tables , I politely mentioned to her we were ready to order. She said shed be right back. After several more minutes of waiting, we her bringing out our friends meals. She past by us and ignored us. We timed how long wed had been waiting there and watching her attend others and it was over an hour and a half. One of our friends walked over and asked if anyone had attended us, we told them no. He called the manager over and told him that we hadnt gotten served. He asked the waitress to attend us and she said shed be right over. After waiting a few more minutes we decided to leave. My only opinion that we didnt get served and our friends did is because they were WHITE.. Never again will I visit nor recommend anyone to visit Alpine or this little store. They ruined our expectation of a small town hospitality.

mao hou Great and unique little hotel. Cute, old-style rooms and connected to a restaurant and game area. We had a little trouble checking in, owner wasn’t the most attentive. Also sort of run down.

Cheryl Evans Loved the old-time ambiance, squeaky wood floors. The rooms were nicely decorated and spacious. I could see the vision for the downstairs game room/restaurant. I hope the owners are able to finish it. I’d have given 5* if they were more responsive. We wanted to keep both rooms another night but weren’t able to contact them. No food is currently served at the Drugstore Hotel but there’s a couple good places nearby. There was a toaster, hot water pot, coffee pot, microwave and fridge in each room. The stairs could be a problem for mobility challenged. Great location.. we went to Marfa and Bid Bend.

Julie Moran This was an older property, kind of neglected to be sure (checking in is by access code), but also interesting for its character (which you have to look carefully around to appreciate). This was a comfortable stay, with all the needed room amenities, certainly for a reasonable price, and right across from a surprisingly nice restaurant. One big disadvantage: Having to negotiate a very tall, very narrow, exhausting set of stairs to get to the rooms.

Patricio Gallo No very friendly people in this small town, the police was even worst. Next time I go to the area I will go directly to MARFA just 24 miles south. The only nice place the state park and the observatory, otherwise I am not coming back. Marfa in the other hand, the people were very helpful and friendlier, the food is excellent and on top you can drive 10 minutes to see the Marfa lights at night.
