Kaitlynn Garza TUITION: While Im glad I got my education, and glad professors get paid well, college should not cost an arm and a leg. Sure tuition here is lower than other colleges, but it is still pretty steep considering these are young adults taking out loans, most of which don’t have a car to go to work.
The president has an annual salary of $390,000, my loans were around the $24,500 mark. Anyway I hope this college considers lowering tuition for the future generations to come.
Art EDUCATION: smaller class sizes make it a lot easier to learn! If you do ceramics make sure you learn how to throw, how to use a kiln, and how to reuse clay especially if you plan on teaching. A general rule of thumb is to have extra time to work on your art outside of class. Todd is a professor that’s slightly intimidating but he’s very helpful so don’t be scared of asking for help. One more thing, If you think outside the box be prepared to spend money on supplies

Tanya I was recently accepted into the Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate program at Texas A&M University–Kingsville. Initially, I was genuinely excited about the opportunity, especially as this program presented a more affordable alternative to my current one.
Unfortunately, my first impression of the university and its administrative processes has been disappointing. I did not receive any formal notification of my acceptance—no congratulatory email or official letter. I only discovered my acceptance by persistently checking my application portal. When I reached out to Graduate Admissions for guidance on next steps, I encountered a frustrating lack of communication and support. Gaining access to necessary platforms required repeated follow-ups, and many of the provided links were non-functional.
Additionally, I was advised to contact my program coordinator—a crucial detail that was not shared with me until I made multiple phone calls to various departments. Once I received the coordinators contact information, I reached out multiple times over a two-week period without receiving any acknowledgment. I also attempted to contact the program adviser directly and experienced the same lack of response.
It was only after two weeks of repeated outreach that Graduate Admissions provided me with the contact information for the department chair, who finally responded and offered some assistance.
As a prospective graduate student, this lack of support and communication has significantly impacted my perception of the program. The onboarding experience has fallen short of what I would expect from a university of this stature. I strongly encourage the university to reassess and improve its approach to welcoming and supporting new students. A more professional, responsive, and student-centered experience is essential—especially for those entering graduate-level programs.
This experience will be a key factor as I finalize my decision on which program to attend.
