5 /5 Shelley Joy: I am not sure what the specifics are that prompted the previous low reviews. I have seen doctors all over the country for a variety of medical issues. My experience with UCSF Endo is one of the best Ive had.
Yes, it takes awhile to sort through the referral process. Yes, you, as a patient, have to remain diligent about getting your doctor to follow through on the referral/forwarding of medical records, etc.
However, once you have done that, the staff and service at UCSF Endo could not be better. The scheduler was kind and followed up multiple times to be sure I was connected with the right physician and in an extremely timely manner.
Dr. Babey herself is an extraordinary physician. She spent nearly 2 hours with me reviewing my complex case with patience, empathy, and kindness.
I believe part of the problem is that patients have to put in a considerable amount of work to be seen. This is now true throughout the healthcare industry. It is not what it was 20 years ago. We must be our own advocates. Admittedly, much of the burden now lies with the patient to gather documents and to continue to call in order to get appointments scheduled. Insurance coverage requires the same kind-of persistence. It is a real hassle and in a perfect world, it would not be our responsibility. Nevertheless, if you stay the course, in most cases you will succeed in being seen (hopefully by a physician you like and respect.)
