5 /5 Alison K: Just on a whim at about 2:00 am this morning (dunno why I was awake, but I was and decided to look up people who repair AC in automobiles in Gainesville through Yelp), Yelp took it upon itself to send out messages to various repair shops in Gainesville for my AC unit in my Jeep...AT 2:00 IN THE MORNING!
Much to my shock (and horror at possibly waking someone up at that ungodly hour!), I got an instant reply from one shop with 5 stars. I could come in tomorrow first thing and I made the appointment, satisfied and surprised as well and went to sleep.
I arrived about 9:15 (15 minutes later than expected due to the three thunderstorms dumping tons of rain on me as I made my way from Hawthorne to the other side of Gainesville)...called Eric so that I could figure out the confusing layout of businesses and shops and go in the correct gate (which he had to open for me since Im a RHD jeep...). He was already there, open for business and led me back to his bay. He jumped right on my Jeep and hooked it up to his AC machine to pump out the existing freon and check the readings for leaks, etc. Can you believe he wasnt going to charge a dimd for all that? I was insistent that I pay him something for his time and machinery and could only get him to accept maybe $20. Upon letting my jeep run several minutes without anything hooked up to it, the engine fan kicked on to cool the engine and the AC (which had previously run very cool) suddenly stopped blowing cool at all. Ahhh...possible damage to the condenser and maybe even the evaporator. No leaks though, but that explains the possible problem. Ordering parts online, and going to check on a blower motor part (which showed online as for left hand drive Jeeps), he wouldnt even allow me to pay for the parts he was ordering...until I insisted and then he only allowed me to pay for HALF and the blower motor wasnt even included in all that!
Since he makes his own hours, works for himself, he even said he could be there on a Sunday!! This being my only day off for two weeks, I was in shock! How did I just happen to find the most flexible and inexpensive, honest mechanic in three cities?
All I have to say is THANK GOD Yelp sent my message at 2:00 in the morning to this person (who was only awake because he said hed just got back from Alabama) and I found him.
I will update after my work is done, but so far, Im BEYOND impressed and happy! He even texted me and showed the parts had been ordered (including the confusing blower) and their arrival date...receipt to show his honest pricing (really...this guy is too much! Hes as honest as I am!) and is STILL replying to my Yelp messages (so sorry about that...Ill check my phone itself shortly ).
Now, dont go inundating him with work before I get my Jeep fixed, because I like the fact that I could drive right over and have him all to myself! If youre looking for flexibility and honesty along with good mechanical knowledge, do yourself a favor and look him up. But if not, leave him to me so I can get even more done to my Jeep without wading through other customers lined up at his bay door!
