Beth R Getting a two star review because the nursing staff are exceptional. The admin is abysmal. No returned calls. Took over 6 hours to have a CT scan when we were told it would be "shortly". Transferred my husband from a regular room to the ICU without telling me. Phone numbers on the discharge paperwork are incorrect. When calling to make followup appointments, could not reach the doctors offices. Discharge paperwork said to make the appointments for 2 - 4 weeks. I finally got an appointment seven weeks out. I thought Vassar was supposed to be one of the best hospitals in the nation. I guess not.

Angela Poor care and no privacy?!? What was this joke of an experience? I came in because an urgent care DR had recommended I go to an ER due to difficulty swallowing and severe ear/neck/jaw pain. I then get placed in a maybe 5 by 5 space, with just a sheer curtain divider between patients. I could hear everything!!! Thats definitely a huge Hippa violation!! What the hell?!? Huge red flags!!! I should not be able to hear those things, and patients should not hear what is going on with me. I will be reporting the hippa violations to HSS because that was truly unexceptable. Then the doctor comes in. They asked a few questions, checked throat and ears, swabs for strep, gave me a steroid and pain relief shot. OK, cool some progress maybe? However, still not addressing the actual issues of my ear/jaw/neck. Then strep comes back negative and the doctor started treating me completely differently! "You have no fever, your tonsils look fine, theres no edema." I told them I was taking Tylenol and ibuprofen for my pain, which are fever reducers.. Of course I dont have a fever!!! I also told them that the pain wasnt just my throat, its also my neck/jaw/ear and that the throat was not why I came in! They acted like I was in there just to waste her time. Im sorry, but I went there at the advice of a medical doctor. I know how important it is to keep the emergency rooms open. But how is difficulty swallowing and sudden severe pain in your head not something emergent? Then the doctor dismissed my concerns, blamed it on "being sick." Then vert rudely, she said "Theres no magic pill that can cure you." Seriously?!?! I cant believe I heard a medical provider say that to me. So disrespectful and just poor bedside manner. Of course there is not a magic pill, but thats why we have doctors, no? She turned, absolutely unprofessional, cold , dismissive. She then said she prescribed some steroids for inflammation and put in my for discharge papers. Not even a referral to an ENT? Is that not who I should see for ear/jaw/neck/throat pain? Ive been sick plenty of times and have never, ever felt the pain Im experiencing. I didnt come in for a "sore throat," so why were they treating it as such? Im so displeased. Did not feel cared for at all. My medical information did not feel safe, and I was exposed to hearing about other patients privacy. Such a shame too, because I had all 4 of my kids at Vassar and those were very great experiences with amazing providers. I really trusted you with my care, but this has left me extremely bitter. I would rather go anywhere else. Edit to add.... I saw a dentist a few days later, who told me to see an ENT and oral surgeon for a lump on my tongue and in my throat. How could a doctor overlook that entirely? When I went in with those complaints. She should be ashamed of herself.

Nina Keating Positive Care and Support at Nuvance Health Vassar Brothers Medical Center
We recently needed to go to the emergency room at
Nuvance Health Vassar Brothers Medical Center with our very ill mother. She was subsequently admitted to ICU. From the moment we arrived, the staff demonstrated a high level of professionalism and compassion.
Efficient Check-In Process: The check-in process from ambulance arrival to a dedicated room was seamless, and the staff was warm and welcoming. She was quickly attended to.
Compassionate and Skilled Team: The doctors, nurses, and support staff were not only knowledgeable but also compassionate. They took the time to explain every step of our mother’s treatment plan in detail, even the difficult parts, ensuring we understood everything. Though there were many professionals who contributed to her treatment, we want to thank Nurse Laura in ICU and Dr. Yaw Apenteng for their care and support of Mom.
Clean and Well-Maintained Facilities: The hospital environment was clean and modern, reflecting their commitment to providing a safe and comfortable space for the patient and their family.
Prompt and Effective Treatment: Despite the busy nature of the emergency room, Mom received prompt attention. The team worked efficiently to diagnose what was going and provided appropriate treatment.
Support During Difficult Decisions: When faced with difficult decisions regarding Mom’s care, the team provided invaluable guidance and support. They presented options clearly and compassionately, helping us make informed decisions that aligned with Mom’s needs and wishes.
Overall Experience:
Our experience at Nuvance Health Vassar Brothers Medical Center was positive. We experienced appropriate medical care, a compassionate staff, and a well-organized system. The support and guidance provided during difficult decision-making moments were particularly appreciated.

Tish Lange Four years ago, I nearly lost my life, but thanks to an outstanding medical team, I am alive and well today. After reading some of the negative comments and ratings, I felt compelled to share my own experience.
I arrived at the ER and was seen immediately, then taken to a separate room. The hospital itself was new and exceptionally clean, and even the food service exceeded expectations—they carefully addressed my dietary needs and promptly fulfilled any requests. The cleaning staff were efficient, friendly, and incredibly helpful.
The nursing staff went above and beyond to care for me, always attentive and compassionate. As for the medical team, they were nothing short of superb, providing exceptional care that saved my life. I can’t thank this team enough for their dedication and professionalism.
